Hey San Antonio!

Dentistry is always advancing and new technology allows us to have more accurate and more successful procedures/prognosis’s. It is our obligation to our patients to keep up with new technology and practices, in order to better serve our community.

We utilize industry leading Planmeca CADCAM CT technology to understand bone anatomy, soft tissue anatomy, nerve mapping, pathology, and restoration mapping as well!

What does this all mean? In the past with limited visualization, we would have a lower prognosis in implant success and identifying structures. Now that we have 3D renderings, this allows us to have a much better view and be much more exact with difficult cases. We use these scans to 3D print guides that coincide with the CT scan to assist us in surgeries!

Currently on the photo is us mapping an implant to see which angle would be best, and how much bone we have to utilize as well. We send out the file to our lab to create a surgical guide, and then proceed with the procedure!

Did you know some adults still may have baby teeth?! At times deciduous teeth (baby teeth) remain in the mouth as there is no permanent tooth under to replace it. If exceptional hygiene is kept, and no decay forms, some of these teeth are able to be kept forever!

Alternatively, they do lack the functional benefits of an adult tooth and are usually extracted if they do persist and give issues.

In this case, we had a patient who had a baby tooth that had started to hurt the patient chronically, but didn’t want to go without a tooth. We agreed that the best course of action would be to remove the tooth, graft the site, and place an immediate implant.

Once the tooth was removed, implant placed and grafted, we wait for integration and will see this patient in the next couple of months to restore the site!

Patient had cracked a tooth, rendering it non-restorable. We both had reached a consensus that an immediate implant would be an excellent option for replacing a molar!

First picture is the decayed/split tooth, second picture is immediate implant placement before grafting, third picture is fully healed grafted bone and implant after 3 months!

We only utilize Straumann implants, and the results show!
