Your child can brush carefully and still leave plaque between teeth that touch. That’s where daily flossing comes in!

Start as soon as two teeth touch, and help until your child can do it well independently. Before or after brushing is fine. Choose whichever order makes it easier to remember, and gently guide the floss instead of snapping it into the gums.

Yes. Plaque that isn’t removed well can harden into tartar, and once it does, a toothbrush won’t simply brush it away. You may notice a hard yellow or whitish buildup, often near the gumline or behind the lower front teeth. Regular brushing and flossing help prevent buildup, but existing tartar needs to be removed professionally.
