Last week, Dr. Austin got to live a childhood dream by doing stand up comedy at the American Academy of Clear Aligners conference. He got to open for Jim Gaffigan. Gaffigan called him “a foul mouthed dentist…” Nothing has ever been more true!

What a difference a morning makes! With good diagnosis and treatment planning we can change a smile in a single morning. Worn & eroded front teeth were prepped for crowns today, scanned and temporized. Temporaries don’t have to suck! With a little care and skill they can look almost as good as our final restorations! These were made with TuffTemp Plus by . At Kay’s last visit we opened her bite with direct chair side composite overlays on her back teeth. In a couple of weeks she will have beautiful new by crowns. Nothing is better than a morning like this!

The media, local & state government, and even the has made it abundantly clear that dentistry is “non-essential.” We disagree. Because when dentistry is “non-essential” you get smiles like this guy. We don’t want that. When this thing is over, don’t forget your dental health. Make an appointment. Get that filling or crown done. Get the deep cleaning you were told you needed before all this. Your dentist is most likely a small business person. This has hit them harder than almost any other industry. When this is over, make your dental health a priority. Don’t end up like John Finlay. YOUR DENTAL HEALTH IS ESSENTIAL.

In accordance with the mandate of Governor Greg Abbot, our practice is switching to handle only urgent and emergency dental care. All hygiene and non-essential dental care will be suspended until at least April 3rd, 2020. Do not fear of being left without care though. Dr. Austin will be in the office every day to help you and your family with any emergent or urgent dental needs you may have. You have been there for us for over 10 years. We will be here for you, both now and in a few weeks. Thank you and stay safe!

COVID-19 Update
Rest assured, we at Joshua Austin DDS are taking the COVID-19 pandemic situation seriously. We practice Universal Precautions EVERY DAY, so we are open as usual until advised otherwise by any governing bodies. We do have some small changes to relay to our patients.
· All patients will be required to wash their hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds when they arrive and perform a preprocedural mouth rinse.
· We ask that patients come alone, children with one parent, to decrease numbers in our reception area
· Patients may wait in their cars if they wish and we can call them when ready
· We have removed all magazines and shared items from our reception area and operatories
· All patients will be aske upon check-in with the front desk:
o “Do you feel ill?”
o “Do you have a cough?”
o “Do you have a fever?”
· A patient may be asked to reschedule if any positive answers are provided
· All common touch points in lobby such as door handles, counters, chair arms….will be disinfected frequently.
This is a constantly changing situation. We will be continuously monitoring CDC recommendations, American Dental Association recommendations, and forums with my professional colleagues.
