Jeremy M. Thompson, DDS, MS, grew up in West Virginia but now considers himself an adopted Texan. He completed his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees at Ohio State University. After that, Dr. Thompson served eight years as an Army dentist. During that time, he completed specialty training in endodontics at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, learning advanced root canal techniques. He earned his master’s degree at the Medical College of Georgia. As an endodontist, Dr. Thompson specializes in treating the tooth’s interior. He says, “Root canal specialists can drastically improve a patient’s life on the same day we meet them if they are suffering from a toothache or infection. That’s very gratifying.”
Drawn to dentistry because it combines his passions for science, technology, and hands-on work, Dr. Thompson says,
“We often see patients who never have had root canal treatment or had it decades ago. The way I learned endodontics in my specialty training in the Army was advanced far beyond what I was taught in dental school. The continued advancements in imaging and local anesthetic techniques and the instruments and materials we use have made it easier for providers and more comfortable for patients. Modern endodontics can change a patient’s perspective on dentistry as a whole. I love to see patients realize that dentistry is not what it used to be, and usually not what they expected.”
When not at the office, Dr. Thompson enjoys cooking and appreciates the great produce and array of international ingredients available in diverse San Antonio. The doctor lives with his wife, their daughter, and their two standard poodles. He and his family love spending time outdoors.
