Let’s put this one to rest 👻

“Deep cleanings are a scam” is the myth that keeps haunting dental offices. Here’s the truth:
A regular cleaning cleans the tooth surfaces above the gumline. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) goes below the gumline, into the pockets where tartar and bacteria hide out and quietly destroy the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place.

We only recommend it when we can measure it: deeper gum pockets, bleeding, tartar under the gums, or bone loss on X-rays. Skip it, and gum disease keeps creeping, which can lead to loose teeth and even tooth loss.

The scariest thing in your mouth isn’t the treatment. It’s what happens without it.

Your oral microbiome. 👀
Yep, it’s a thing. And no, it’s not something we’re trying to get rid of.

Think of it as this tiny community of bacteria and microorganisms living in your mouth. Some are helpful. Some… not so much.

The goal isn’t to wipe them all out. It’s about balance. When that balance gets disrupted, the harmful bacteria can gain the upper hand, contributing to inflammation, gum disease, and other oral health problems.

Healthy gums = a happier, more balanced microbiome. 🤍

Your gums shouldn’t have to scream to get your attention.

Gum disease doesn’t always hurt, and some of its earliest warning signs can be easy to brush off. Bleeding when you brush or floss. Persistent bad breath. Swollen or tender gums. Recession. Teeth that suddenly feel different or begin to shift.

Those little changes can be your gums trying to tell you something.

September is Gum Care Month, and it’s a good reminder that you don’t have to wait for pain to pay attention to your periodontal health.
