This patient came to us with a good deal of crowing with blocked out teeth, severe deep overbite, and narrow V-shaped dental arches. We treated her case with interproximal reduction (reshaping and slenderizing the front teeth) and dental expansion to correct the crowing, open the deep overbite, and broaden the dental arches. We did this using Freelove clear aligners. This only works with correct diagnosis and treatment planning so make sure you see a trained orthodontist like our patient did. Our patient came to Dr. Freelove with a big underbite wondering what options she had to achieve the smile of her dreams. She and Dr. Freelove discussed treatment alternatives, including jaw surgery and lower tooth extraction. In the end, she and Dr. Freelove agreed on clear aligner treatment with elastics (rubber bands). Our patient is in love with her new smile! With carefully planned clear aligner treatment by a trained, board-certified orthodontist like Dr. Freelove and excellent compliance (with aligner and elastic wear), extraordinary results are possible! For icing on the cake, Dr. Freelove restored our patient's fractured upper front teeth. It was explained this was temporary and would need to be done by her dentist in the future for a permanent restoration, however it was a nice finishing touch that our patient was ecstatic about! We are so proud of our patient!

We employed palatal and mandibular expansion with upper and lower partial braces to widen her upper jaw and provide plenty of space for her permanent teeth, including her blocked out canine. For my last case, I showed that with good mechanics, moderately crowded cases can be treated well non-extraction, however in some cases extractions will provide the best results. I don’t think this patient is too worried about his lost teeth considering the result he ended up with! The best way to know what the best plan for you is to talk to a skilled orthodontist.
