A dental home is important for any child; however, children or youth with special health needs may encounter unanticipated barriers in acquiring the needed access to oral health care. This presentation entitled “Dental Home for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs “ will discuss some of the unique situations experienced by children with special needs and how dental providers can implement clinical strategies/accommodations that can create a positive oral health experience for the practice, child and family. The Finding the Right Dental Home for Your Child or Youth with Special Needs checklist will be referenced https://publichealth.nc.gov/wch/doc/families/DentalHomeChecklist-102119-WEB.pdf. This presentation will also offer free site assessments for accessibility, in addition to providing strategies on how to increase accessibility and enhance communication for all clients. This statewide presentation was developed in cooperation with the NC Commission for Children with Special Health Needs-Oral Health subcommittee. This presentation is eligible for CE credit (1 -2 hours depending on components). A minimum of six participants must be confirmed for an onsite training.
