If you’ve been putting off your wisdom tooth consultation, spring is the ideal time to get it on your calendar!

Scheduling now gives you plenty of time to plan your procedure and enjoy a smooth, stress-free recovery once summer arrives. Here’s why getting started today is a smart move for your comfort, convenience, and long-term oral health:

☀️ Summer Is the Best Time to Recover
Summer often comes with a lighter schedule, whether you’re a student on break or carving out some well-earned time off. Wisdom tooth recovery typically takes just a few days, so scheduling your procedure in the summer means you can rest comfortably without missing classes, deadlines, or important commitments.

📅 Appointments Fill Up Fast
As the school year winds down, oral surgery offices get busy. Many patients want their extractions done before heading off to college or taking summer trips. Booking your consultation now means you’ll have your pick of appointment times and won’t feel rushed when the season heats up.

🧾 Early Consultations Prevent Future Problems (& Costs)
Even if your wisdom teeth aren’t causing discomfort right now, they can still lead to crowding, infections, or damage to nearby teeth down the road. During your consultation, we’ll take detailed digital X-rays and evaluate whether removal is recommended – and if so, the best timing for your surgery. Taking a proactive step now can save you from pain and complications later.

“Never sleep a stranger.”

That’s a phrase we learn early in medical training about anesthesia and the responsibility it comes with.

When you receive anesthesia you’re placing your safety in someone else’s hands. Procedures like wisdom tooth removal, tooth extractions, and implants are very common, but they’re still surgeries. They require careful evaluation, planning, and proper risk stratification based on each patient’s medical history, medications, anatomy, and overall health.

That’s why it matters who administers your anesthesia and who performs your surgery. In my opinion, you shouldn’t be meeting your surgeon for the first time on the day of your procedure. You should be treated by someone who has examined you beforehand, understands your background, and has the training and experience to anticipate and manage any complications.

Choosing a surgeon involves many considerations. Cost, insurance coverage, dentist recommendation… the list goes on.
But for any procedure requiring anesthesia, the most important factor is knowing you’re in experienced hands.

There’s still time to use your 2025 health benefits before the year wraps up!

• FSA/HSA dollars can be used toward many oral surgery services
• Dental insurance benefits often reset in January – use them before they disappear!

It’s a great time to schedule:

• Dental implant consultation including 3D X-rays
• Wisdom teeth evaluation/removal including 3D X-rays

We’ll do our best to fit end-of-year appointments in before your benefits expire, so if you’ve been putting something off… reach out and let’s get you on the schedule before the ball drops!

Thinking about oral surgery for you or a loved one and wondering if your dental insurance will cover it?

Here’s a "behind-the-scenes" look at how insurance works for oral surgery procedures like dental implants and wisdom teeth extractions.

At Radecki Oral Surgery, we participate with most major dental insurance plans, which means your out-of-pocket costs are lower and your experience is simpler from start to finish.

If we are in-network, our fees are pre-approved and discounted through negotiated agreements with these insurance providers and (in most cases) we handle all claim submissions for you.

Here’s an example:
If a procedure normally costs $1,000, our in-network rate might be $750.

✅ You pay only your share of that $750 – patients typically owe 20 to 50%, depending on your individual plan. That can save you hundreds of dollars and weeks of waiting for reimbursement. Note: an exception to this math is if your yearly maximum has already been met.

❌ If you go out-of-network, you typically pay the full $1,000 up front and then wait to (hopefully) get reimbursed later.

Cautionary Note about Out-of-Network Reiumbursement:
Some surgeons or dentists may tell patients that they’ll provide the paperwork needed for reimbursement – but not all insurance companies allow patients to self-submit. In those cases, you’ve already paid in full, and any errors or delays in processing forms can mean waiting weeks (or months) to get part of your money back.

Seeing a participating provider maximizes your benefits and streamlines the entire process – because the dental office handles everything for you, not the other way around.

Benefits of choosing an in-network provider:

• Insurance companies have already screened and approved participating surgeons
• We file most claims directly… no paperwork or waiting on your end
• You maximize your benefits before your yearly maximum has been met
• It’s one less thing to worry about during your recovery

Bottom line: Going to a participating provider means less paperwork, faster savings, and fewer headaches!

Not sure if your wisdom teeth should come out at your dentist’s office or with an oral surgeon? 🤔

It’s a common question, and you’re right to want to do a little digging about this.

Here's what you should know:

1️⃣Wisdom teeth extractions really aren’t routine dental work.

2️⃣Wisdom teeth are often impacted, close to nerves, or angled in ways that make surgery more complex. That can mean more swelling, longer recovery, and a greater chance of complications if not handled by a specialist.

3️⃣General dentists *sometimes* perform extractions. Oral surgeons do them every day.

Dr. Radecki has removed tens of thousands of wisdom teeth over 25+ years. With advanced training in anesthesia and surgical techniques, our team helps make the process safer, the recovery smoother, and the outcome more predictable. Wisdom teeth removal might cost 10% more with oral surgeons – that’s really the only downside.

🦷✅ The choice to get treated by an oral surgeon is yours!

A dentist’s referral works just like a prescription – you get to decide where to “fill” it. Some dentists recommend certain offices out of habit or due to business arrangements. Ultimately, it’s entirely your choice to find an oral surgeon you trust. That includes by choosing one who participates in your insurance plan.

💸✅ We accept most major dental insurance plans at Radecki Oral Surgery.
