You won't need to be numb to have veneers put on, and you can eat lunch right afterward.

Numbing is for when we're drilling into a tooth and getting close to the nerve. We're not doing that. We're bonding thin ceramic onto the front surface of teeth we haven't touched, so there's no nerve to settle down and nothing that needs to heal.

We fit them, we check your bite, and you use them right away.

Compare that to most dental appointments, where you're numb for hours, careful about what you eat, and talking out of one side of your mouth all afternoon.

For a lot of my patients, that's the part that makes this feel doable. The appointment stops being a day you have to plan around.

If you're weighing veneers, one of the fairest questions to ask is what happens if you change your mind.

With the ones we print here, you can. Because we bond them onto the front of your teeth rather than filing anything away, your natural teeth stay whole underneath the whole time you're wearing them. Decide in five or ten years that you'd rather not have them, and we polish them off. What's left is your own teeth, exactly as they were.

The traditional version doesn't give you that. Once a tooth has been ground down to take a porcelain shell, it needs a shell on it for the rest of its life.

I waited a long time for materials good enough to give you a cosmetic decision you're allowed to undo. That's the part I'm most pleased about.

Before we talk about printing you a set of veneers, I want to be straight with you about who this works for.

Because we're adding material to the front of your teeth and never taking any away, your teeth need a little room to receive it. If your front teeth already sit forward, or they're on the fuller side, adding to them may not give you the look you're after. Your bite matters too, since anything we add has to work with how your top and bottom teeth meet.

That's what the consultation is for. I'll look at your teeth, look at your bite, listen to what you want changed, and tell you honestly which route gets you there.

Sometimes the honest answer is traditional porcelain veneers. If that's what gives you the better result over the long run, that's what I'll recommend.

If you're looking into veneers, there are a few different options.

Bonding is the one we do by hand, sculpting material onto your tooth right there in the chair. It looks lovely when it's fresh. After a couple of years it picks up stains and needs redoing.

Porcelain veneers are the ones most people picture. These are thin custom shells, and they last fifteen or twenty years. To fit them, your teeth have to be filed down first, and that part is permanent.

The third option, low-prep 3D-printed veneers, is what we're doing now. In my opinion, this is the BEST way to get veneers. They give the same look and feel and traditional porcelain veneers because they ARE porcelain veneers, BUT nothing comes off your teeth. We print the veneers right here in the office and bond them onto the front of what you already have.

I tried the early version of this about fifteen years ago and it was thick and obvious, so I left it alone. The materials have caught up since then. That's why I'm offering it now and wasn't before.

I grew up believing that losing your teeth was just part of getting older.

My parents, my grandparents, and a lot of people around me lost teeth, so I assumed that's how life goes. It wasn't until hygiene school that I learned you can keep your teeth for the rest of your life. That's the reason I wanted to become a hygienist.

Back then, the thinking was to treat a problem once it showed up. Prevention works the other way. We take the steps early so you never get to that stage, and hygienists are the ones who help keep you at a healthy level.

If you've got a gap between two teeth and you don't want to spend a year moving them, you might not have to. If the space is small enough, we can close it with veneers instead of moving anything.

We scan your teeth, print thin ceramic pieces here, and bond them onto the two teeth on either side of the gap. No brackets, no trays, nothing to wear for months.

This works when your bite is healthy and the teeth have room to take a bit more width. If your front teeth already sit forward, or the gap is a wide one, then moving the teeth really is the better answer, and I'll say so and get you to the right person.

We'll know at the consultation which one you're looking at.
