Oh, how I wish everyone could see Daisha from my perspective. Not that anyone who knows her lacks confidence that she’s an amazing mom. But to be able to watch her so closely as a mother to our children is the great joy of my life.
I love my kids so much. And I simply wouldn’t be able to bear the fact that I don’t get to spend much time with them unless they had a mother who always made them feel seen and heard and loved and cared for and listened to and nurtured and taught and safe and… to know that they are children of God, our Heavenly Father.
Every man’s first duty is to love his wife so that she can have all the emotional and practical resources to love her kids. Daisha fills that role so much better than I do my own. It’s so clear in each of our 8 children. I can see her in each of them.
Macie’s beautiful poise and polish. The way she can be so graceful and comfortable in front of others is Daisha all over.
Dominic’s serious and thoughtful and mature outlook on life. Just beneath a thin layer of his dad’s silliness is a deep pool of wisdom and seriousness, poured into him by his mom.
Tessa’s amazing gift of sensitivity to the Spirit. And her soul so close to emotions that makes her feel so deeply, so quickly. It’s like watching a mini version of Daisha.
Claire’s important ability to laugh graciously at herself. To tease oneself with grace, and to tease others in a way where only love, not malice is conveyed is a gift she got from you.
Alice’s rock-solid testimony at such a young age. Her cheery nature and how it’s just so, so easy to love and root for her; like I do for Daisha.
Anthony’s desire to be an obedient rule follower and ruffle no feathers. Being able to politely excuse yourself from inappropriateness and rascality with no hint of haughtiness is perhaps the most Daisha trait ever.
Charlotte’s sensitivity to how others are feeling. She craves lifting those around her. She leaves no one in the circle uninvited, unseen, or unheard. She got that from her mother.
Thurman’s love for being around family and making sure we do all the family fun-tivities. Long after his mom doesn’t have the energy for traditions, Thurman will carry the torch he was handed from his beautiful mother.
And, of course, Daisha has changed me for the better; so much. I would be a totally different creature without her and her example.
Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who carries the world’s most important job with grace, love, and quiet greatness every single day
