Dr. Fugaj has been monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak and has and will continue to follow the guidance of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, as well as the Centers for Disease Control.
On April 27th, dental offices in Indiana may reopen for non-emergency treatment as long as they have proper supplies of personal protective equipment. Dr. Fugaj has been in contact with many suppliers for weeks to make sure the staff will have access to approved N95 and level 3 masks, as well as face shields, gowns, gloves, and EPA approved disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2. Our sterilization and disinfection protocols will be closely monitored daily. The safety of our patients and staff are of utmost importance. We are currently treating emergencies only, and will continue to do so until at least May 4th.
We are also implementing additional measures which go above and beyond these guidelines:
1. Patients are asked to call the office from the car when they arrive. As soon as the waiting room is clear and the operatory is ready, we will bring you back. We ask that only one adult accompany a child that needs to be seen.
2. All staff and patients will have their temperatures taken upon arrival. Patients will also be screened both on the phone the day prior to the appointment, as well as when they arrive.
3. Until further notice, cleanings will be completed “by hand”, meaning that the doctor and hygienists will not be using any ultrasonic scalers. Prior to any procedures, patients will also be asked to rinse with chlorhexidine to reduce the number of salivary microbes. Dr. Fugaj will be using a rubber dam whenever possible to isolate teeth that need to be worked on. A new air purification system is now in place. These measures are taken to minimize aerosols and keep everyone safe!
Lastly, I would personally like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, police/fire/ems, other essential workers, and everyone else on the front lines ❤️
To all of our patients- we are here for you if you need us! Rest assured that we will continue to do whatever is necessary to make your safety our first priority.
