September is National Gum Care Month

When we think about dental care, most people think about teeth. Sure, your teeth are very important, but what about your gums? Your gums help protect those teeth by covering our sensitive roots. Without proper care they no longer protect our teeth and actually put our teeth and overall health at risk. Terms you may recognize like gum disease or gingivitis are the early stages and at times may not hurt. If not treated properly could turn into Periodontal Disease.

Signs to look out for and when to call your dentist:
• Frequent bleeding of your gums when flossing or brushing
• Swollen or red/purple gums
• Tenderness along your gum line
• Loose teeth from receding gum line.

Gum disease not only affects the health of our mouths, but it can affect the health of our entire body.

Serious health conditions linked to Periodontal Disease:
• Diabetes
• Birth complications
• Cardiac issues
• Respiratory issues
• Rheumatoid Arthritis
• Stroke

With proper oral hygiene care and routine visits to the dentist following your providers recommendations on schedule you can largely avoid gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Have an emergency? We're here to help.

A patient of ours called this morning in a panic after biting down on a corn on the cob skewer. We were able to get her in and out today leaving with a smile. Procedures like these are why we love what we do. Being able to put the patient at ease and restoring their beautiful smiles.

Finally introducing the newest member of our team... everyone meet Mindy!

Mindy grew up here in St. Helens. She ventured off to the east coast to finish up school for Hygiene 22 years ago and has been serving our local community for the last 19 years. When Mindy is not helping to keep our patients mouths healthy you can find her tending to her chickens, gardening or enjoying camping with her husband and twin Sophomore's!

We are so excited to have her join our team and know our patients will love just as much as we do!

Happy Tooth Fairy Day!!

Fun Fact:
Did you know the first known mention of the Tooth Fairy was in the Chicago Daily Tribune in 1908. The tooth fairy isn't always in a dress with a wand either. In some countries the tooth fairy is a furry little mouse! Some children receive coins or even little toys.

What have you received from the Tooth Fairy?
