Dry mouth may seem like a small problem, but it can have a big impact on your teeth. On these before and after images you can see the root cavities on the top photos caused by dry mouth.

Dry mouth, also called xerostomia, happens when there isn’t enough saliva flow. Saliva helps naturally rinse away bacteria, protect your enamel, and balance the pH levels in your mouth. Without enough saliva, cavity-causing bacteria can build up more easily, leading to tooth decay and the need for more dental treatment.

Many people suffer from dry mouth and don’t even realize how much it can affect their oral health. It can be common in perimenopausal women, people with autoimmune conditions, certain medications, and other health concerns.

If your mouth often feels dry, sticky, or uncomfortable, don’t ignore it. We can help you figure out what may be contributing to it and create a plan to protect your teeth. Our cavity prevention trays or our DEKA laser treatments may help you and prevent you from needing excessive dental work.
