🟣🟣🟣 Some prosthetic restorations are not about beauty; some of them really make a difference in quality of life!
CASE OF THE WEEK presents patient who came to our office after having partial maxilla resection due to oral cancer. Those cases require a prosthesis that provides everyday functions like eating, drinking water, swallowing or properly pronouncing the words.
🟣🟣🟣 When it comes to the technical details of the maxillary obturator, specific procedures are needed to block the undercuts that will interfere with insertion of the prosthesis as well as the make sure that the bulbous extension of the acrylic will not create any trauma on the underlying structures.

🟣🟣🟣 The day that starts its adventure in the World Cup, marks the day our beloved patient started his new life with a new smile.
🟣🟣🟣 Severe wear and chemical erosion due to acid reflux can be extremely detrimental for tooth structure in any age.
🟣🟣🟣 Combination of periodontics (for clinical crown elongation) and prosthetics(full coverage restorations) gave Chris his confidence, his smile and his function back.

🟣🟣🟣 Mandibular fully guided implant surgery could present with certain limitations that have to do mostly with the stabilization of the vertical pins due to inadequate vestibule depth.
Those are the cases that skill and experience of free-hand implant placement come into the equation.
In any case, correct planning and respect for the biology are the principal factors to consider!

Preparing lower anterior teeth that have been compromised due to decay could be a very challenging task (root proximity in combination with reduced ferrule) but sometimes medical reasons require saving teeth and avoiding any type of surgical intervention..
Always happy to work with teeth and see the margins clear..

🟣🟣🟣The clinical decision between 2 or 3 implants in the esthetic anterior zone to replace failing teeth #6,7,8 is being well documented both in terms of function and esthetics.

Patients with medium or low smile line that require “individual teeth because I do not want to use super floss” could be one indication for 3 implants. In those cases it’s paramount to preserve the interdental bone during the extractions so we don’t end up with black triangles.
These cases have to be planned with extreme precision so we make sure the distance between the implants is adequate and the position of them is prosthetically driven!

Severe wear cases, whether it’s in the form of teeth attrition or chemical erosion, have to be addressed comprehensively! Diagnosis is key and the treatment can include other medical specialties as well!
P.S to our dental colleagues: unless you are able to have good isolation and see your margins clearly, the lab tech will not make any miracles 😉!
