When parents ask what makes pediatric dentistry different, the short answer is: pretty much everything.

We spend 2-3 extra years training after dental school, all focused on kids. The tools are smaller, the sinks are kid-height, and we skip words like “shot” and “drill” for language kids can actually handle. On top of that, we’re trained to spot patterns in bite, jaw, and eruption that most general dentists don’t focus on.

It’s a whole different specialty, built around how kids actually feel about coming to the dentist.

For new parents, the first visit should happen by age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth. The earlier we start, the smoother every visit after this one is.
