Soft Tissue Impaction
- Upper wisdom teeth are often soft tissue impactions.
- The tooth is completely covered by gum tissue.
Bony Impaction
- Partial Bony Impaction - a portion of the crown is embedded in the jaw bone
- Full Bony Impaction - the entire crown of the wisdom tooth is embedded in the jaw bone
- Lower wisdom teeth are often horizontal impactions

Fully Erupted
- This means that the wisdom tooth has grown into the mouth completely.
- You should be able to see the entire crown of the wisdom tooth, much like the rest of your teeth.
- Oftentimes, even fully erupted wisdom teeth need to be extracted because they:
- Can be very hard to clean properly
- May become decayed and require fillings or more expensive root canals and crowns
- Can cause decay on adjacent molars that you do need

At Fix Those Teeth, our main focus is the removal of, you guessed it, wisdom teeth of all shapes and sizes. The best time for removal of these teeth, also known as third molars, is when the roots are approximately 1/3 - 2/3 formed as pictured here. This usually occurs between the ages of 14 to 18. Below we've outlined the different levels of impactions.

Dr. Shareena Dixon graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of the Pacific in 2002. She is a general dentist, and her practice, Nothing But Wisdom Teeth, is limited to oral surgery and IV sedation.

Dr. Dixonattends numerous continuing education courses to keep her clinical skills sharp and up to date. Most recently she received her IV Sedation License by participating in an advanced training course under dental anesthesiologists Dr. Stanley Malamed and Dr. Ken Reed. The course was hosted in Portland at OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University) continuing education dental clinic.

While she takes her role as an oral health advocate very seriously, Dr. Dixon takes a light-hearted approach to her day in hopes of evoking a smile from those who elect her services
