Yellow teeth can create low confidence and make a person feel embarrassed to smile. Yellowing typically happens due to genetics, dentin, smoking, pasta sauce, fruits, coffee, tea, and grinding at night. When you do eat staining foods or drinks, be sure to rinse your mouth for 30 seconds thoroughly with water when you are done. Your smile is needed, wear it proudly! For any other questions regarding your dental care, give us a call at (585) 424-2100.

Did you know that airborne particles from flushing the toilet can actually make their way onto the bristles of your toothbrush? We recommend keeping your toothbrush in a drawer or at least 6 feet away from the toilet. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months to ensure it can properly clean your teeth!

According to research, 35% of adults and 15% of kids do not see a dentist regularly. Doing your normal flossing and brushing each day at home is not enough to maintain healthy oral hygiene. Upon visiting our office for a routine checkup, you can expect your dental hygienist to examine your mouth for any decay, check your gums, examine your bite, eliminate tartar, provide polishing, fluoride treatment, sealant application, and possibly take dental x-rays. Don’t delay your visit to the dentist! Contact us today at (585) 424-2100 to schedule your appointment!

Veneers are either made of composite resin or porcelain. While porcelain veneers don’t become stained or discolored, resin veneers can. Unfortunately, resin veneers do not respond well to whitening treatments. Although you cannot whiten them, there are methods you can do to improve their appearance through professional dental cleanings and at-home cleaning routines tailored to your specific needs. To prevent staining, be sure to take proper care of your veneers by steering clear of color-rich foods and beverages like coffee, tea, curry, and pasta sauces. If you do eat these foods, brush your teeth afterwards and rinse with water. For more information on caring for your veneers, contact us at (585) 424-2100.

Have you ever heard of a condition called "black hairy tongue"? It’s a temporary and harmless condition that is caused by an overgrowth of mouth bacteria. Certain bacteria will accumulate on the small projections that cover the tongue and create red blood cell pigments, which can make it appear black in color. If the normal shedding of the outer layer of cells on the tongue is inhibited, the projections are larger making the tongue look hairy. Fortunately, it can be resolved by brushing your tongue twice daily as part of your dental care routine and rinsing with a hydrogen peroxide and water solution. Contact us at (585) 424-2100 for any questions about your oral health!
