🦷 Best Recovery Tips After Oral Surgery
1) Follow your post-op instructions first
Your surgeon’s instructions should always take priority, especially for medications and activity restrictions.
2)Protect the blood clot
After an extraction, the blood clot is important for healing. Avoid vigorous rinsing, spitting, or anything that could disturb the surgical site.
3)Stick with softer foods
Think yogurt, eggs, smoothies eaten with a spoon, mashed potatoes, applesauce, soup that isn’t hot, and other easy-to-chew foods.
4)Use ice during the first day
Applying a cold pack to the outside of your face in short intervals can help with swelling and discomfort.
5)Take it easy
Give your body time to recover. Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy activity until your surgeon says it's okay.
6)Keep your mouth clean, but be gentle
Continue your oral hygiene routine as directed, while being careful around the surgical area.
7)Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water, but avoid using a straw if your surgeon has advised against it.
8)Don't smoke or v**e
Smoking and va**ng can interfere with healing and increase the risk of complications.
