WISDOM WEDNESDAY (catch that dental pun 😉)!!

With it still being cold and flu season, here's a couple things you might not know! The common cold is the most common disease. In second place, we have tooth decay! It's important to maintain proper brushing habits and get your check-ups regularly to catch any decay early on or prevent it all together. It is also important to change out your toothbrush after being sick to prevent potential re-infection.

We observe Great American Spit Out on the Thursday of February’s third full week every year. This year, it takes place on February 22.

Prolonged use of smokeless to***co products can cause serious and permanent damage to your teeth, gums, and overall health. In the short-term, chewing to***co users have noticed things like bad breath, yellowed teeth, receding gums, and decreased sense of taste and smell. The long-term implications are bleaker, with the potential of tooth loss, increased risk of developing cavities, development of gum and periodontal disease, increased risk of heart disease, and increased risk of developing cancer of the mouth, tongue, and throat.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your oral health due to the use of to***co products, don't hesitate to reach out to the Oakland Dental Care team!

Since it is National Children's Dental Health Month, we thought we'd share a Q&A with that in mind!

When babies are born, they have 20 teeth that look like miniature versions of adult teeth. These primary teeth, also known as deciduous teeth or “baby teeth,” usually fall out between ages 6 and 12. After that, new teeth begin growing to fill the holes and replace the older ones.

Primary teeth usually fall out easily on their own. For some, it can be as early as five or six years old, for others it can be as late as seven or eight. Each child is different, even those within the same family. If they don’t fall out on their own, a dentist can extract them.

Adult teeth are stronger than baby teeth, and they also grow more slowly. This means it takes longer for them to erupt through the gums and become visible. These permanent teeth are necessary because they support the jawbone and help us chew food properly.
