With the first month of school almost over, here are a few tips to help students keep their healthy smiles throughout the school year:

1) Healthy Snack Ideas:

-Crunchy Veggies: Carrot sticks, cucumbers, and bell peppers are perfect for snacking for teeth!
-Fruits: Apples and pears are not only delicious but have fiber that helps to clean teeth and prevent cavities.
-Cheese: String cheese or cheese cubes are tasty and have calcium to strength bones and teeth.

2) Stay Hydrated:

- Encourage your kids to drink plenty of water and to avoid sugary drinks like juice, soda, and energy drinks.

3) Practice good oral hygiene:

-Brush 2 to 3 times a day and always use a soft toothbrush.
-Consider using a floss holder to make flossing quick and easy.

As school gets back into full swing, here are a few tips to help your child have a comfortable dental check up:

-Take turns pretending to be the dentists and count each other's teeth.

-Let your child clean a stuffed animal's teeth. Pipe cleaners make great dental instruments.

-Help your child to remember to brush twice a day. Singing songs can make it more fun and can help your child remember to brush long enough.

Did you know gum can be good for your teeth? Sugar-free gum or gum sweetened with sugar alcohols can decrease cavities by increasing saliva. Some of our favorites include Orbit, Trident, and Eclipse.
