It depends on the size and location of the chip.

A small chip may not be an emergency, but even minor damage can leave a tooth vulnerable to further cracking, sensitivity, or decay. If the chip is causing pain, has a sharp edge, or involves a large portion of the tooth, it's best to have it evaluated as soon as possible.
