In oral surgery, the “save your tooth” mindset shows up in a few key ways:

1. Prioritizing tooth-preserving procedures
Oral surgeons often work alongside endodontists to avoid extractions. Procedures like apicoectomy (removing infection at the root tip) can save a tooth that might otherwise be pulled.

2. Careful decision-making before extraction
Even when a tooth is badly damaged, surgeons evaluate whether it can be restored with treatments like root canal therapy plus a crown instead of immediately removing it.

3. Preserving bone and surrounding structures
When extraction is unavoidable, oral surgery still follows the “save” principle by protecting the jawbone—for example, through socket preservation to maintain bone for future implants.

4. Supporting long-term oral health
Procedures like dental implants are planned carefully to mimic natural teeth and prevent further bone loss, aligning with the broader goal of maintaining oral function.

5. Trauma and emergency care
Oral surgeons often handle injuries where teeth are knocked loose or damaged. Efforts focus on stabilizing and saving the natural tooth whenever possible.

Here is a recipe you may want to try today for Cinco de Mayo!

👩🏼‍🍳7-Layer Dip Recipe:

Layer 1: Refried Beans (16 oz) - Often mixed with taco seasoning for extra flavor.
Layer 2: Guacamole (1–2 cups) - Fresh or store-bought; keeps the dip creamy.
Layer 3: Seasoned Sour Cream (16 oz sour cream + 1 oz taco seasoning).
Layer 4: Salsa (16 oz) - Chunky mild or hot, preferably drained to avoid a watery dip.
Layer 5: Shredded Cheese (2 cups) - Cheddar, Mexican blend, or Colby Jack.
Layer 6: Black Olives (2.25–6 oz) - Sliced and drained.
Layer 7: Fresh Toppings - Chopped green onions, tomatoes, or shredded lettuce.

Common Ingredient Tips & Substitutions
Creamy Base: Mix 8 oz of softened cream cheese with the sour cream and taco seasoning for a thicker, richer layer.
Lighten it Up: Substitute plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream.
Prevent Browning: If using fresh avocado, toss with lime juice.
Add Meat: Add a layer of seasoned, cooled ground beef or turkey for a more filling dip.

Instructions
Spread the refried beans in the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish or serving bowl.
Layer the guacamole over the beans.
Mix the sour cream and taco seasoning, then spread over the guacamole.
Add the salsa over the sour cream layer.
Top with shredded cheese.
Top with black olives.
Finish with chopped green onions, tomatoes, or lettuce.
Chill for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors blend.

Behind every doctor, there’s a teacher who first taught them how to read, think, question, and believe in themselves.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, we celebrate the educators who plant the seeds of curiosity and nurture the minds that go on to heal the world. Your impact reaches far beyond the classroom—you help make doctors, leaders, and lifesavers possible.

Thank you for shaping the future, one student at a time. 🍎💙

Spent the morning at the Rhinelander High School job fair and left feeling genuinely inspired. It’s always great connecting with students who are curious, motivated, and starting to think about their futures.

We had some really thoughtful conversations about career paths, opportunities, and what it’s like in the real world of work. Events like this are a great reminder of how important it is to show up, share knowledge, and support the next generation as they take their first steps.

Big thanks to the school for hosting such a well-organized event and to all the students who stopped by to chat.
