Radiology Safety Certificate

Redwood City Dental Institute is providing a Dental Board approved 32 hours radiation safety class. This is a 2 day in Class course.

Price: $535

The successful completion of the California State radiography requirements will be recognized by awarding a Radiation Safety Certificate approved by the Dental Board of California.

Your training in dental radiology (x-ray) will include taking radiographs on manikins and eventually on four (4) human patients.

Course Prerequisites

Following are the steps students must complete prior to the first day of the course:

Students must have completed the Infection Control Course.
Select patients that have their adult dentition with a minimum of 24-28 teeth.
No fixed orthodontic appliances
Patients must be 18 years and older.
Patients must be seen by a dentist to determine that there is a need for full mouth series of x-rays (FMX) for diagnostic purposes.
Patients must not have had radiographs taken within the last year (12 months).
All patients must complete and sign a health history and consent form. Including yourself. (As long as you are not pregnant.)
Students must purchase their own Double Pack Film- Size #2.
Patients must be at least 18 years of age.
All clinical patients MUST have RX w/ medical history signed prior to exposure.

Radiology Course Requirements

You will be responsible for recruiting your four patients. The recruited patient must have a written prescription (Rx) from their dentist in order to qualify to have full mouth survey of radiographs taken by you. If your patient does not have a family dentist, make arrangements for your patients to see your employer (dentist) or your family dentist.

PITS & FISSURE CERTIFICATION

This is a 2 day course - Class is from 9:00am to 6:00pm

Course Description
Redwood City Dental Institute is providing a Dental Board approved 16 hours, Pit & Fissure Sealant course. This course includes both supervised lecture, laboratory (Fletcher manikin or extracted teeth) and clinical instructions.

Course Prerequisites

Prior to the Pits and Fissures Course, students must complete and provide: (Must Show Proof)
Certificate of Completion for Coronal Polishing from a Board Approved course
Certification of Completion for Infection Control from a Board Approved course
Current CPR card Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals (AHA Approved)
Students will be required to show current proof of identification (Drivers License)
Students need 4 patients for clinical portion of Pits and Fissures Sealants

Pits and Fissures Course Requirements

First day student signs in time is 8:30am to 8:45am - Second day patient signs in at 8:45am to 9:00am
Students will be required to perform pit and fissure sealants on a total of 16 virgin, non-restored and calculus free teeth, from a minimum of four live patients. Each patient should have a minimum of 1 virgin tooth per quadrant.
Each student must come prepared to first day of class with 4 posterior extracted teeth embedded in stone within a Dixie cup from all 4 quadrants. Student must make sure not to cover the buccal and lingual pits of the teeth. Extracted teeth can be provided upon request for an extra $25
Student should provide four (4) patients (4 pre-clinical and 2 clinical examination) to perform pits and fissure sealants. Each student should have a total of 4 patients with virgin fully erupted and calculus free teeth. Patients should have cavities clearance from DDS with age 13 to 21 y/o, under 18 needs parental consent. Students can share patients upon instructor’s approval.

INFECTION CONTROL

This is an 8 hours Infection control course offered to dental employees involved in clinical dentistry, satisfying the requirements of the CA dental board and the prerequisite for the RDA exam.

Beginning January 1, 2010, CA dental Board, requires that unlicensed dental assistants employed after this date who are in a dentist’s continuous employment for 120 days or more must complete, within a year of the date of employment, a Dental Board approved course in infection control and a Dental Board approved course in the California Dental Practice Act.
