At age 17, Dr Mike was in a surfing accident which caused him to break his jaw and several teeth. His dental condition was restored by a local dentist, Tim McAllister DDS, and that had sparked his interest in becoming a dentist. He still meets with Dr Tim, who he considers his mentor. He attended Southern California Regional Occupational Center trade school (SCROC) and became a registered dental a
ssistant (RDA) and worked as both a dental assistant and dental lab assistant; to be certain that becoming a dentist was something he wanted to do. He attended El Camino College where he received his associate's degree in chemistry and pre-dental education. He then attended California State University of Long Beach (CSULB) where he received his bachelor's degree in chemistry and pre-dental education. In 1988, he Graduated Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington DC and received his DDS degree. His wife, Dr. Mary Lynn Lukasik is from Litchfield Park Arizona, so following dental school they acquired their National Board Certifications, both Arizona and California dental board certifications and Dental Licenses. They worked for dental clinics in the Phoenix, Nogales, and Sierra Vista Arizona areas. They both maintain active dental licenses for CA and AZ. Dr. Mike found his dental school student loan debt unsurmountable and then joined the Navy to pursue student loan repayment. But at that time, in order to be eligible for loan repayment, he had to accept undesirable deployments. He worked for 2.5 years as a dentist with the Bureau of Prisons at the Arizona State Mental Hospital - Hohokam Unit inmate triage center; with periodic temporary work duty a Florence Penitentiary, Picacho AZ . Next, he transferred to the United States Public Health Services Commissioned Corps ( USPHS-CC ) and worked as Chief Dental Officer for the Hopi Indian Tribe via the Indian Health Services (IHS). During his duty with the USPHS, he received the Isolated Hardship Duty award, USPHS-CC Achievement Metal, and the U.S. Being homesick for Redondo Beach, he transferred to Long Beach Naval Base. Long Beach Navy Base was closed in 1996; so, he left the corps with an honorable discharge. He and his wife, Dr Mary Lynn then started their own private practice located in the Hollywood Riviera Village, which they still maintain for 20+ years. Dr Mike enjoys road bicycling and restoring old vintage cars.
