Maxillofacial Surgery Center for Excellence

Maxillofacial Surgery Center for Excellence We perform pediatric and adult facial reconstructive surgery that changes
lives. http://www.njfacialsurgery.com

The perception that “top-notch” care in reconstructive surgery of the face is limited to academic centers in New York and Philadelphia is a myth. Licensed as both a medical doctor and a dentist, Dr. Haghighi has a unique blend of education and experience that you would be challenged to find anywhere, including the “big cities.” We focus on treating a number of conditions related to the face includ

ing, but not limited to:

* Facial trauma
* Jaw deformities, including cleft and craniofacial surgery
* Sleep apnea
* TMJ disorders
* Facial Trigeminal Nerve Injuries

Instead of traveling long distances for reconstructive surgery, both local residents and visitors can trust our expertise and feel confident in our ability to make their lives better.

This office was recommended to me by many local families. My 8 year old son had a molar removed under sedation and I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the office staff and doctor. Everyone was kind, informative and the procedure went great. Very thankful for the care!!

Dr. Haghighi is the best! He has extracted 4 wisdom teeth from both of my children with no issues. He and his team put my kids at ease the day of surgery and his upbeat personality makes for a positive experience. The front office is well run with friendly staff that answers every question thoughtfully. Excellent oral surgeon!

Had surgery here. The staff and Dr. H are amazing. Dr. H. was funny, kind and a great listener. Thank you for everything!

This was the first time I was at the office. My son had to have all 3 of his wisdom teeth pulled. I was recommended to Dr. Haghighi's office from my son's dentist. We'll, from the day we went for the consultation to the day of the surgery everyone in the office was so amazing,nice and welcoming. Dr. Haghighi's and his staff we're so wonderful. Thank you all so much for your caring and compassion. I would definitely recommend them to anyone ...👍

Dr Haghighi has been thee best! He his expertise and care has been second to none. His office staff is equally excellent. I highly recommend this office.

Trauma Tuesday ✨

25 year old woman was closing out the late shift at the local diner. Her boyfriend shows up with a .38 caliber pistol. At point blank range he fires two shots.The first bullet is deflected off of her wrist as she raises her right hand to guard her face. The bullet is deflected from the wrist and grazes her chin. The second bullet enters the left cheek and makes direct contact with the right mandible. The shock wave created by the impact, scatters fragments of bone and projectile, with secondary, internal projectiles One bone fragment is impaled in the jugular vein.

Debridement of mandible with plate reconstruction of the continuity defect. Repair of jugular injury. Repair of avulsive skin injury of the chin with geometric, rotation/advancement of local skin.
Post-traumatic repair of continuity defect of right mandible using autogenous bone graft from left hip.

Throw back Thursday to circa 2003. This was before advanced imaging and scanning techniques. Before there was digital treatment planning.
20 year old man with traumatic tooth loss followed by loss of dental implant, and severe vertical bone defect.

Phase I surgery: Alveolar distraction construct using baseplate secured to the alar base. Transport segment is “skewered” with positional “jack-screw”. Transport segment is distracted at a rate of 0.5 mm/day.
Phase II surgery: Transport defect is veneered with an autogenous onlay bone graft harvested from the lower jaw.
Phase III surgery: After four months of healing, the graft is matured and site is optimal for replacement of dental implant for FP-1 restoration.

Credit and respects to Dr. Martin Chin (San Francisco, Ca) for his ingenuity and innovation.

Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (SARPE).

SARPE is a variation of the LeFort I maxillary Osteotomy used in instances where there is stark deficiency in upper jaw width, requiring expansions of up to 1 centimeter or greater.

Technique: Saw cuts are made through the floor of the nasal cavity, as well as other parts of the upper jaw, to allow for expansion without interference. Then a “palate expander” is used to spread the upper jaw, to the desired width, slowly over a 10-14 day period. Following a 3 month wait, and expert collaboration with orthodontic specialist, the teeth are leveled and aligned accordingly.
SARPE is a form of distraction osteogenesis of bone. It is a predictable form of jaw movement, with high degree of stability.
