Bleeding gums are one of the most common signs that something in your oral health needs attention (and it’s something a lot of people ignore for far too long).

The good news? In many cases, it’s treatable, especially when caught early.

A little bleeding here and there might not seem like a big deal, but inflammation in the gums can progress over time if it’s left untreated. Regular cleanings, good home care, and early intervention can make a huge difference.

Gum disease often starts small like bleeding when you floss, swollen gums, or bad breath that won’t go away.

But over time, it can affect the bone and tissue supporting your teeth.

The earlier it’s caught, the easier it is to treat. Paying attention to your gums now can help protect your smile long-term.

This patient came in with what looked like a small area of decay. But, hidden underneath was a large area that needed to be fixed.

We were able to fully restore the area, stopping their pain and brightening their smile.

Meet Melissa S!

For the past 10 years, Melissa has been a trusted part of the Dental Specialties team, balancing insurance coordination with hands-on patient care as a dental assistant.

Her path into dentistry started with family inspiration (thanks to her uncle, a dentist), but what’s kept her in the industry for 26 years is that she truly loves what she does. That passion shows in both the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly and the support she gives patients every day.

Outside the office, Melissa is all about the simple joys like reading, baking, music, the arts, travel, and a relaxing weekend with friends (preferably while watching Notre Dame football).

A teeth cleaning isn’t just about leaving with that smooth, just-left-the-dentist feeling (though we love that part too). It’s one of the simplest ways to stay ahead of bigger dental issues.

Routine cleanings mean fewer surprises and healthier gums.

If you’re in need of cleaning, contact us today.

It’s one of the most common questions we get…should I save the tooth or just pull it?

From a patient perspective, extraction can feel like the easier, more straightforward option. But there’s usually more to consider beyond the immediate fix.

Whenever possible, preserving your natural tooth helps maintain your bite, your bone structure, and your long-term oral health. That said, every situation is different and sometimes removal is the right choice.

Our job is to walk you through both options clearly, so you understand what each path means now and down the line. 🦷
