🚫DEEP CLEANINGS AREN'T JUST CLEANINGS. THEY'RE TREATMENT FOR DISEASE🚫
October is National Dental Hygiene Month, and we're kicking it off by addressing one of the most misunderstood treatments in dentistry!
Here's what many patients don't realize: 🦷A deep cleaning, clinically known as Scaling & Root Planing (SRP) and performed as part of Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy (NSPT), isn't simply a more thorough six-month cleaning or an optional upgrade. It's treatment for periodontal (gum) disease, a chronic inflammatory condition driven by harmful bacteria that can cause ongoing infection and destruction of the tissues supporting your teeth.
When active periodontal disease requires treatment, a routine cleaning cannot take its place. Your periodontal health and clinical findings determine the care you need, not simply personal preference.
Local anesthetic is typically used for comfort, and at Princeton Dental Studio, we also incorporate laser gum therapy to target bacteria within gum pockets, help reduce inflammation, and support gum tissue healing.
⚠️ THE REALITY OF UNTREATED GUM DISEASE:
• It can silently destroy the bone supporting your teeth, causing irreversible damage and eventual tooth loss.
• It can make blood sugar harder to control in people with diabetes.
• It's associated with serious cardiovascular conditions, including heart attack and stroke.
At Princeton Dental Studio, we believe every patient deserves to understand not just WHAT treatment is recommended, but WHY it matters. We're here to educate, answer questions, and help you understand the importance of your oral and overall health. ✨
If you've been told you need a deep cleaning but never fully understood why, we hope this breakdown brings you clarity. Whether it's for yourself or someone you love, we encourage you to share this information.
Whether you've been avoiding the dentist, or simply aren't sure where your oral health stands, it's never to late for a fresh start! We encourage you to give us a call and schedule an appointment. You can't always reverse the damage that's been done, but you can take meaningful steps to protect what you have and prevent further progression.
