Severe gum recession doesn’t mean the tooth can’t be saved. 🦷

This patient had advanced gingival recession with significant root exposure and a lack of healthy tissue around the tooth.

Here’s the result 6 months after gum grafting — complete root coverage and a much thicker, healthier layer of tissue surrounding the tooth.

The goal isn’t just to cover the exposed root. It’s to rebuild healthy tissue, protect the underlying bone, and help preserve the tooth long-term.

Fixed teeth that don’t come out? Here’s how All-on-X works. 🦷

For patients looking for a more secure alternative to traditional removable dentures, an All-on-X (hybrid denture) may be an option.

Typically, 4–6 implants are placed to support a fixed set of teeth that screws directly into the implants.

Patients will usually start with a temporary set while the implants integrate with the jawbone. After healing, the permanent set is made.

One important thing to remember: fixed doesn’t mean maintenance-free. Proper cleaning underneath the denture and regular professional maintenance are essential for keeping everything healthy long-term.

Every patient is different, so the first step is finding out which option makes the most sense for you.

🦷 Creating a Stable Foundation for Long-Term Health

Thin gingival biotypes and minimal keratinized tissue can lead to inflammation, recession, and patient discomfort during brushing.
In this case, a Free Gingival Graft (FGG) was performed in the mandibular anterior area to:
✅ Increase the zone of keratinized tissue
✅ Enhance soft tissue thickness and stability
✅ Improve long-term peri-cervical health and plaque control

📸 The sequence:
1️⃣ Pre-op: Minimal keratinized tissue and high frenum pull.
2️⃣ FGG placement: Graft secured with microsutures for maximum adaptation and vascular integration.
3️⃣ Post-op healing: Healthy, stable band of keratinized tissue with improved contour and protection.

Saving a failing dental implant isn’t always about replacing the implant — sometimes, it’s about rebuilding the tissue that supports it. 🦷

In this case, there was severe bone loss around implant #10, along with very thin tissue in the area. One of the key concerns was the lack of healthy keratinized tissue surrounding the implant.

The first step was creating a vascular bed to establish a strong blood supply for the tissue graft. Tissue was then harvested from the patient’s palate, carefully prepared, and transferred to the implant site.

We also used PRF from the patient’s own blood at the donor site to help control bleeding and support tissue regeneration during healing.
This is just the first part of the process.

When it comes to treating gum recession, not every grafting material is right for every patient. 🦷

Donor tissue and other grafting materials can be great options in certain cases, but patient selection matters. If the area is exposed or doesn’t heal properly, these materials can be more susceptible to infection and may actually worsen the recession.

That’s why, whenever possible, I prefer using the patient’s own tissue. 🙌

Because it comes directly from your own body, it can help us avoid many of the complications associated with other grafting materials and is often our first choice when treating gingival recession.

Every case is different, which is why choosing the right technique for the right patient is so important. 🦷✨

Before we can rebuild the bone, we have to remove the infection first. 🦷🦠

In this case, the first step was getting access to the defect and thoroughly cleaning out the infected tissue. 🔍✨

Why is this so important? 🤔 Because healthy bone needs a healthy foundation to regenerate properly. 🦴🌱

Once the infection and compromised tissue are removed, we can move forward with bone regeneration and give the area the best opportunity to heal. 🙌🏼

Non-Carious Cervical Lesions (NCCLs) Not all tooth wear is caused by cavities!
NCCLs are defects that occur near the gumline and are commonly associated with:
🔹 Tooth brushing trauma
🔹 Occlusal stress & flexure (abfraction)
🔹 Acid erosion

Often, NCCLs are seen together with gingival recession, which can make the root surface more sensitive, harder to clean, and at higher risk for further damage.
In this case, a surgical approach was performed to restore gingival health, cover exposed root surfaces, and improve long-term stability.

Where does gum grafting tissue actually come from? 🤔

One of the most common questions I get is where the tissue used for a gum graft actually comes from.

In most cases, the most reliable option is your own tissue from the roof of your mouth (the palate). Before recommending treatment, I carefully evaluate how much healthy tissue is available to determine the best approach for your specific case.

There are also other grafting options depending on your needs, including:

🦷 Allograft – donor tissue
🦷 Xenograft – tissue sourced from another species, most commonly bovine

No two patients are the same, which is why every treatment plan is personalized. My goal is to choose the option that will give you the healthiest, most predictable, and long-lasting result.
