Rubber Bands: How They Help Your Bite

Rubber bands are used with braces or aligners to help correct your bite and improve the position of your teeth and jaws.

Types of Rubber Bands

Class I Triangle: Helps close spaces and improve tooth contact.
Class II: Helps correct an overbite.
Class III: Helps correct an underbite.
Box: Helps improve your bite by bringing the upper and lower teeth together.

Wear Instructions

Wear your rubber bands 24/7, as instructed by your orthodontist.
Remove them when eating.
Replace with new rubber bands every 4–5 hours.
Always put in a fresh set after eating or removing them.

Consistent wear is important for achieving the best treatment results!

Flossing is important when you have braces because food and plaque can easily get trapped around the brackets and wires. If they aren’t removed, they can cause cavities, gum inflammation, bad breath, and even white spots on the teeth.
