Nasal Breathing vs. Mouth Breathing…Does It Matter?

👃🏻Nasal Breathing warms, filters and humidifies the air while allowing a more efficient breathing pattern

👄 Mouth Breathing has its place, especially during intense exercise when your body needs more airflow. However, habitual mouth breathing at rest or during sleep can contribute to dry mouth, throat irritation, snoring, bad breath, and tooth decay. In children, it can alter jaw growth.

🤐 Mouth taping is a very effective way to help nasal breathing become a habit. Try it for 30 mins while awake to be sure you can breathe comfortably.

A simple goal: At rest, breathe gently through your nose with your lips closed comfortably closed.

If nasal breathing feels difficult, don’t force it. Congestion, allergies, a deviated septum or enlarged tissues may be getting in the way.

Breathe through your nose when you can 🍃

An Update on Dr Whalen:

We’re so happy to share that Dr. Whalen’s procedure went well, and he is now back in the office and working without any restrictions or post-op issues!

We feel incredibly fortunate that Dr. Whalen caught the issue when he did and was able to address it promptly. He took the appropriate time to rest and recover, and we’re grateful to say he is doing great!
We are so thankful for everyone who reached out with kind thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. Your support means so much to Dr. Whalen and our entire Dental Design Studio team.

A very special thank-you to Dr. Niki Sinha and our amazing DDS team for continuing to provide exceptional care to our patients while Dr. Whalen was away. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated team!

This patient came to us with pain every time he bit down: an issue that started right after a new crown was placed at his previous office. That dentist couldn’t pinpoint the cause. Our hygienist could.

The X-ray tells the story: excess cement left behind after cementation, packed between the teeth and pressing into the gum tissue. After a thorough cleaning (and a lot of elbow strength), the difference speaks for itself. The patient is finally comfortable again.

Note: This reflects the hygiene side of care. The doctor is separately evaluating the integrity of the crown.
