Wellness Wednesday: Jawbone cavitations — what they are and why they matter.

Jawbone cavitations, also called FDOJ lesions, are areas of poor healing in the jawbone that may develop after extractions, wisdom teeth removal, or chronic irritation.

They can be difficult to detect, which is why a whole-body dental evaluation may include several tools:

✅ Clinical history — especially past dry sockets or poor healing after extractions

✅ 3D CBCT imaging — helpful for evaluating bone density and jaw structure

✅ Energy testing — used in some biological practices to assess energetic stress in the jaw

✅ Jawbone ultrasound — technology such as CaviTAU may help evaluate bone quality

At Blodgett Dental Care, our biologically based protocols are designed to support the body’s natural healing process. This may include ozone, vitamin C support, L-PRF, homeopathy, lymphatic support, light therapy, and PEMF therapy.

If you have concerns about old extraction sites, wisdom teeth removal, or jawbone healing, it may be time to look deeper.

Toxic Tuesday: Making lemonade out of lemons 🍋

This patient’s story is one of my favorites. She came to us determined to restore both her health and her smile.

After years of dental challenges , including mercury fillings, a root canal, and trauma to her front teeth, she knew it was time for a different approach. Her goals were simple:
• remove toxic materials and dead teeth
• straighten her smile
• restore it naturally with biologically compatible materials

At BDC, we helped her do just that. We replaced her mercury fillings with biocompatible composite fillings, straightened her teeth with clear aligners, removed the root canal, and restored her smile with a ceramic implant, no-prep CEREC veneers, and a ceramic crown.

She traveled from Los Angeles to Portland for care and today, she has the healthy, natural smile she had been hoping for.

If mercury fillings, root canals, broken teeth, or old dental work are affecting your confidence or your health, we may be able to help.

Throwback Thursday: Root canals, lymph drainage, and whole-body health.

Chronic oral infections, root canals, cavitation lesions, and toxic dental materials may place stress on the body in ways many people never consider.

The lymphatic system acts like the body’s waste-management system, helping clear inflammation, infection, and toxins. But when lymph flow becomes restricted, the body may have a harder time doing that important work.

This is why oral health matters.

If infected teeth or toxic materials are creating an ongoing burden, the effects may not stay limited to the mouth. They may influence inflammation, immune function, and overall wellness.

Every choice we make — what we eat, drink, wear, think, and allow in our mouths — can impact whole-body health.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we help patients uncover hidden dental toxicity and support the body’s ability to feel whole again.

Wellness Wednesday: Your mouth may be part of the Lyme conversation.

Lyme disease can affect the body in complex ways, including the nervous system, joints, immune system, and overall inflammatory load.

But one area that is often overlooked is the mouth!

The mouth is not separate from the rest of the body. It is home to an active microbiome, a direct connection to the immune system, and in some cases, hidden sources of inflammation that may exist without noticeable symptoms.

For patients with Lyme disease or other tick-borne illnesses, unresolved oral inflammation may be one more burden on a body already working hard to heal.

That can include gum inflammation, infected or non-vital teeth, root canal-treated teeth, jawbone concerns, or chronic dental infections that do not always cause obvious pain.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we believe whole-body healing requires looking at the whole picture, including the mouth.

If you are dealing with chronic health challenges and feel like something is still being missed, it may be time to evaluate your oral health through a biological lens.

Toxic Tuesday: Lyme disease, oral infection, and the hidden stress in your mouth.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month — and one connection that is often overlooked is the mouth.

Lyme disease is most often discussed in terms of fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, nerve symptoms, and immune dysfunction. But for many people, chronic inflammation may also have an oral component.

Research and clinical observations have shown that Lyme can present with symptoms that mimic dental problems, including facial pain, tooth-like pain, headaches, TMJ discomfort, and facial nerve involvement.

This matters because unresolved oral infections, root canal-treated teeth, periodontal inflammation, and jawbone pathology may continue to place stress on an already burdened immune system.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we look at the mouth through a whole-body lens. If the body is fighting chronic infection or inflammation, the question is not only

“What is happening systemically?”

but also:

What is happening in the mouth?

For those navigating complex chronic illness, oral health should not be ignored.

Throwback Thursday: Autoimmune disease and root canals — understanding the connection.

One of the most common responses to my posts about root canals is:

“There is no science showing that root canals can impact systemic health.”

For anyone who believes that, I encourage you to look up PubMed ID: 37373794.

This article, published in The Journal of Clinical Medicine in June 2023, reviews root canal infections and their impact on the oral cavity microenvironment in the context of immune system disorders.

In simpler terms: it explores how chronic infection in the mouth may influence the immune system and whole-body health.

This is not a new idea. It connects back to what was once called the “Focal Infection Theory” — the concept that infection in one area of the body may contribute to inflammation or disease elsewhere.

If you are living with an immune-mediated condition and have not found answers, it may be worth considering the state of your oral health.

Your mouth is not separate from the rest of your body.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we help patients address hidden dental toxicity and optimize oral health through a whole-body lens.

Wellness Wednesday: A life-changing smile does not have to mean grinding away healthy enamel.

No-prep veneers can brighten, balance, and enhance a smile while preserving natural tooth structure.

Two weeks after enhancing my daughter’s smile with
no-prep veneers, she shared that before treatment she felt insecure and self-conscious about her smile. She wanted something that still looked like her — just brighter, more confident, and more complete.

Afterward, she told me she absolutely loved her smile.

She said it made her feel happier, more confident, and proud to share her smile with the world.

The best part? No tooth reduction. No grinding away healthy enamel. Just thoughtful planning, careful bonding, and attention to shade, shape, and character so the final result looked natural.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we believe cosmetic dentistry should honor both beauty and biology.

A smile you love can change the way you feel every day.

Toxic Tuesday: Chronic oral infection can place serious stress on the body.

Earlier this year, Dr. Kelly Blodgett met a new patient who was dealing with complex health challenges after a severe reaction to Ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

He had experienced brain fog, severe fatigue, and muscle, joint, and ligament pain. After working with a doctor who specializes in fluoroquinolone toxicity, he saw some improvements, but he still felt something deeper may be contributing to his symptoms.

He suspected his root canal may be part of the problem.

After a thorough evaluation, we discovered that not only was the root canal-treated tooth infected, but another crowned tooth was also dead and severely infecting the jawbone.

The patient chose to have both teeth removed, along with a careful cleaning of the surrounding bone to support proper healing.

Afterward, he began noticing significant shifts in his health and energy.

This is why we continue to say: your mouth is connected to your whole body.

Chronic oral infections can place stress on the immune system and may affect overall wellness in ways many people never consider.

If you are struggling with ongoing health issues and feel like something is still being missed, it may be time to look at your oral health through a whole-body lens.

At Blodgett Dental Care, our team is here to help you complete the process of feeling whole again.

Throwback Thursday: Why root canals may be fatally flawed.

Since starting the Toxic Tuesday series, I have shared extensively about the chronic toxic nature of root canal-treated teeth.

After 22+ years of clinical dentistry, I have come to believe root canal therapy is a deeply flawed procedure.

This image series helps explain how bacteria may infiltrate the dentin, spread through microscopic tubules, and contribute to infection in root canal-treated teeth.

Teeth are living body parts. When the nerve and blood supply are removed, the tooth is no longer vital — yet it remains connected to the rest of the body.

For many years, dentistry focused on “saving teeth at all costs,” largely because replacement options were limited. Today, that has changed. With modern biological dentistry, options such as minimally invasive zirconia bridges, acetyl-resin partial dentures, zirconia implants, and ceramic crowns can help replace dead or infected teeth while respecting whole-body health.

Please share this with someone who may need to better understand their options before choosing a root canal.

Wellness Wednesday: Dental mercury exposure and whole-body health.

For decades, mercury amalgam fillings have been accepted and placed in dentistry. Even today, many patients are still told they are a strong, standard option.

But mercury is not biologically neutral.

Once placed in the mouth, mercury amalgam fillings can release v***r over time, meaning the body may be exposed through inhalation and swallowing for as long as those fillings remain.

Research has continued to explore the connection between chronic mercury exposure and systemic health, including neurological health and conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. While every patient’s situation is unique, the question is worth asking:

Why allow a toxic material to remain in the mouth when safer, biocompatible options exist?

At Blodgett Dental Care, we believe patients deserve accurate information, safe protocols, and a whole-body approach to oral health. If you have mercury fillings, they can be removed safely with the proper protections in place.

Look for a dentist trained in safe mercury removal, such as SMART certification through the IAOMT or the Protect Protocol through the IABDM. It is also important to work with a qualified provider to support the body’s detoxification process.

Your mouth is connected to the rest of your body. What is placed there matters.

If you or someone you love is navigating neurological concerns, heavy metal exposure, or questions about mercury fillings, reach out to Blodgett Dental Care through the link in bio.
