Did you know that sometimes a regular dental X-ray doesn’t tell the whole story?

When teeth are stuck in the gums, erupting in the wrong direction, or something is preventing them from coming in, we may need a closer look.

That’s where a CBCT (Cone Beam CT) scan comes in. Unlike a traditional 2D X-ray, a CBCT gives us a 3D view of your teeth, roots, bone, and surrounding structures.

In this case, the 3D scan revealed an extra tooth that was blocking a permanent tooth from erupting properly, something that wasn’t nearly as clear on the traditional X-ray.

The more information we have, the better we can plan treatment and help create the healthiest outcome for your smile.

Have you ever had a 3D dental scan? Let us know below!

Have you ever been told you need “slenderizing” during orthodontic treatment and wondered what that means?

Slenderizing, also called Interproximal Reduction (IPR), is a conservative technique where a very small amount of enamel is removed between teeth to create space for alignment.

Why might we recommend it?
1. Create room for crowded teeth
2. Reduce the need for tooth extractions
3. Help bring forward teeth into a more ideal position
4. Minimize the appearance of “black triangles” between teeth
5. Improve the overall fit and appearance of your smile

The amount removed is tiny, often just fractions of a millimeter, and stays well within safe limits. Studies have shown that when performed conservatively, IPR does not damage teeth or increase the risk of cavities or gum disease.

Sometimes, creating just a little extra space can make a big difference in achieving the smile you’ve been looking for.

Have questions about braces, Invisalign, or IPR? Drop them below!

Crowded lower teeth don’t always mean extractions are the only option.

This is the lower expander we use in our office called the E-Arch. Unlike traditional expanders that turn, this one works more slowly and gently to help create space in the lower arch.

The goal? To help guide crowded teeth up and out so everything has room to fit properly... often without needing teeth removed.

The coil inside applies light pressure from the inside while braces can help from the outside, working together to widen the arch and improve alignment over time.

Every smile is different, which is why treatment should be customized to what works best for you.

Questions about expanders or crowding? We’re always happy to help.
