Key Hygiene Tips for Aligners (e.g., Invisalign):

Clean Before Reinserting: Always brush teeth before putting aligners back in to avoid trapping food/bacteria against teeth.
Clean Aligners: Rinse with lukewarm water when removed; clean with a soft toothbrush and clear antibacterial soap or specialized cleaner.
Avoid Hot Water: Never use hot water, as it can warp the aligners.
Remove to Drink/Eat: Take aligners out to consume anything other than water to avoid staining and damage.
Rinse: Rinse with zero alcohol mouthwash to kill bacteria, especially if you cannot brush immediately.
Regular Visits: Continue visiting your dentist for check-ups and professional cleanings.

The 2026 annual AACD event raised more than $70,000 through their charity auction, rooftop event, and apparel fundraiser to support the AACD Charitable Foundation’s Give Back a Smile (GBAS) program!

The support creates extraordinary impact for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Every $1 donated to GBAS is leveraged into more than 30 times its value in donated dental care thanks to our network of generous volunteer dentists.

Right now, there are 27 survivors across 16 states with dental injuries from violence who the AACD is actively working to match with volunteer dentists.

Behind every restored smile is a careful, compassionate screening and coordination process. Each month, the GBAS Case Manager reviews nearly 30 new patient applications and manages more than 160 active GBAS cases nationwide.

The AACD also helps cover transportation costs, because many GBAS patients travel an average of 130 miles round-trip to access care.
