When people need a tooth removed, the fear they say out loud is the surgery. The fear underneath it is walking around with a gap where a tooth used to be.

So here's how we handle that in my Pompano Beach dental office. We have a 3D scanner and a 3D printer right here. When we take a tooth out and place an implant, we can often send a scan to our designer, print a temporary tooth, and send you home the same day with something in that space.

It's not your final tooth. It's a placeholder, shaped to look like the real thing while everything heals underneath.

There's an honest trade-off, and we'll always tell you upfront. A fresh temporary like that isn't built for biting into a slice of pizza on day one. Treat it gently and it does its job. Rush it and you can undo good work.

But for most people, the relief of not leaving here with an empty space is worth following a few rules for a couple of weeks.

A lot of people choose a dentist based on one question: are you in my network? I'd gently push you to ask a different one.

Dental insurance isn't really insurance the way health insurance is. Health coverage protects you from the big, life-altering bills. Dental plans usually cap out around a thousand dollars a year, and then there's a list of rules about what they'll cover and how.

So here's what happens. People let a yearly maximum decide where they go and what care they get, when the plan was never designed to cover the things that actually matter for your mouth.

We're not in the business of chasing insurance reimbursements, which is exactly why we can give you a full hour for a cleaning instead of rushing you through. The trade most people don't see: a "covered" visit somewhere else can come with add-ons and a faster pace, while here you simply get more time and straight answers.

Ask me why I became a dentist and the answer probably isn't what you'd expect. I like building things.

I like work you can see and touch. Dentistry is like construction or an art project to me. There's a beginning, a middle, and an end, and at the finish there's something real standing there that wasn't there before. A rebuilt bite. A tooth that matches the others so well you'd never pick it out.

When it comes together, and someone sees their finished smile and recognizes themselves again, that never gets old.

There's so much that I can do with modern dentistry, quickly.

A lot of what used to take weeks of waiting and multiple trips back and forth, we can now move through in far less time, right here in the office. We scan your mouth in minutes instead of using those gooey impression trays.

We plan the work in 3D before I ever pick up an instrument. And when it makes sense, our 3D printer can produce a temporary tooth the same day, so you don't leave with a gap while everything heals.

That last part matters more than people expect. The fear isn't usually the work itself. It's the in-between, the stretch of time where you're avoiding photos and covering your mouth.

I won't pretend the bigger cases happen in an afternoon. Good work takes the time it takes, and I'll always be straight with you about that. But technology lets me close the gap between where you are and where you want to be a lot faster than dentistry used to allow.
