Espejito, espejito... 3 señales en la cara de tu hijo que me hacen pensar que no está respirando bien de noche y necesita evaluación temprana.
Lo que vemos en Fase 1 cuando hay respiración bucal persistente:
1. Labios separados en reposo y le cuesta mantenerlos cerrados sin esfuerzo
2. Lengua en posición baja o sin contacto habitual con el paladar
3. Mordida cruzada posterior, paladar alto y aumento de la altura facial inferior
Y asociado muchas veces:
Ronquidos, sueño inquieto o pausas respiratorias observadas.
Congestión nasal frecuente, respiración ruidosa o antecedentes de alergias.
Las ojeras marcadas y la cabeza adelantada pueden funcionar como pistas,que llaman la atención, pero no son pruebas diagnósticas por sí solas.
La combinación de respiración bucal persistente, signos de obstrucción nasal y alteraciones del desarrollo maxilar justifica evaluación temprana.
¿Qué ocurre? Durante el desarrollo no se respira por la nariz como normalmente debería. La lengua queda baja, no estimula el paladar, y el maxilar no se desarrolla bien y queda estrecho. Por eso trabajamos en equipo con otorrino.

Espejito, espejito... ¿cómo está creciendo realmente tu hijo? 🪞✨
Muchas mamás me dicen: “Dra, pero si todavia no ha terminado de mudar sus dientes y esta muy chiquito, de verdad ya necesita brackets?
Y es que Fase 1 NO es brackets temprano.
Fase 1 es guiar el crecimiento:
• Cuando el maxilar crece estrecho, no hay espacio para la lengua 👅
• Cuando no hay espacio para la lengua, respira por la boca 😮‍💨
• Y cuando respira por la boca, su carita no crece hacia adelante como debe.
Si esperamos a los 12, el 90% del crecimiento de su maxilar ya pasó. Por eso a los 7 revisamos CÓMO crece, no CUÁNTOS dientes cambió.
No es brackets temprano, es guiar el crecimiento.

No miro solo dientes, miro cómo crece y respira tu hijo 👧🏻💨
Soy la Dra. Erika Granada, ortodoncista infantil. Mi enfoque es detectar a tiempo alteraciones del crecimiento y de la vía aérea para un manejo interdisciplinario oportuno.
Si tu hijo ronca, respira por la boca, rechina los dientes, duerme inquieto, se levanta cansado y/o no rinde igual en el colegio; una evaluación a tiempo cambia todo.

Healthy smiles start with healthy habits!

We had such a fun morning visiting the little ones at Education Station Preschool in Lighthouse Point and teaching them all about brushing, healthy habits, and taking care of their smiles.

Learning about oral health from an early age can help kids feel more comfortable and confident when caring for their teeth.

Parents, ask your little one tonight: “How long should we brush our teeth?” You might be surprised by what they know!

6 signs your child might not be sleeping & breathing well 👀

As parents, we often pay attention to our child’s teeth, but there are other clues worth noticing as they grow.

Does your child:

👄 Breathe through their mouth?
😴 Snore regularly?
👃 Have difficulty breathing through their nose?
👅 Have a tongue tie or restricted tongue movement?
😬 Strain their lips or chin to close their mouth?
💤 Sleep restlessly or in unusual positions?

One sign does not necessarily mean there is a problem. But when we notice these signs, they can be worth discussing with your child’s pediatric dentist or pediatrician.

At Kids Healthy Smiles, we look beyond the teeth. We look at growth, oral function, breathing and dental development so we can determine when to monitor, when to evaluate further and when a referral may be appropriate.

Early evaluation doesn’t always mean early treatment. Sometimes it simply means knowing what to watch.
