True North Dental would like to acknowledge Dr. Carl Gerner as one of the founding members of True North Dental Group. He has dedicated more than 48 years serving the community of Plattsburgh. After attending the United States Coast Guard Academy for two years, Dr. Gerner spent a semester at the University of Kentucky and then finished at Lake Erie College. He eventually earned his dental degree from the Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry in Cleveland Ohio.
Dr. Gerner received a scholarship for dental school from the United States Air Force and upon graduation, he was stationed in Plattsburgh, NY. He enjoyed what the community had to offer, he loved the beauty of the North Country and decided to make it his home. He and an Air Force friend started a private practice in the Plattsburgh Mall in 1981. After 10 years of renting space in the mall he needed a change. In 1991 he decided to construct his own building and move the practice to its current location on 91 Hammond Lane. He renamed the practice (formerly McDental) to Plattsburgh Dental Group. In 2016, Dr. Gerner merged Plattsburgh Dental Group with Heins Family Dentistry, partnering with Dr. Craig Heins, to form what is now True North Dental Group.
Dr. Gerner has had an amazing career in dentistry and he loved the fact that he was allowed to work for himself as well as collaborate with other dentists through the years who he respects and admires. He cherishes the relationships he has built over the years through our dental practice, both with his patients and our staff.
Over the last 6 years, Dr. Gerner became passionate about treatment for sleep apnea. This became a major focus of his work and continuing education. He pursued many hours of training and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
After many years caring for our patients Dr. Gerner has made the difficult decision to retire from dentistry. We are incredibly grateful for his service, his commitment to dentistry, his thoughtfulness to our patients and staff and we wish him many years of health and happiness in his retirement.
True North Dental Group will continue to thrive under the capable leadership of his co-owner, Craig Heins, DDS, and our dedicated team of dental professionals.
