Are dental amalgam fillings the same conversation for every patient? Not necessarily. 🦷

While many people have intact amalgam restorations without problems, certain patients may require additional consideration when new treatment is being planned.

Existing fillings should be evaluated individually based on their condition, the health of the tooth, symptoms, medical considerations, and the risks and benefits of replacement.

Importantly, intact amalgam fillings should not automatically be removed solely to prevent disease. Removing a sound restoration can also affect healthy tooth structure.
