WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Providing patient care and support
Taking Digital X-rays
Preparing the work area for procedures
Assisting dentist by handing them instruments and equipment, taking notes when needed
Educating patients on good oral hygiene habits and post operative instructions
Prepare materials for crowns or dental impressions
Stocking treatment areas and monitoring inventory
Must be flexible to work some evenings and some Saturdays.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
🔹 1+ year of assisting experience preferred — new graduates welcome!
🔹 X-Ray Certification (Required)
🔹 CPR Certification
🔹 Dentrix experience is a plus
🔹 Excellent communication & organizational skills
🔹 Flexible availability — some evenings & Saturdays required

Many people fear dental X-rays because of “radiation” — but modern dental X-rays actually use extremely low radiation levels.

In fact, a full-mouth series of modern digital dental X-rays may expose you to less radiation than a short airplane flight. Modern digital systems also use up to 80% less radiation compared to older film-based X-rays, while helping dentists detect problems much earlier and more accurately.

Dentists also follow strict safety guidelines called the ALARA principle, which stands for “As Low As Reasonably Achievable.” This means X-rays are only taken when truly necessary and with the lowest radiation dose possible. Additional protective measures may include lead aprons, thyroid collars, digital sensors, and very fast exposure times.

For pregnant patients, dental X-rays are generally considered safe when needed and properly shielded, but it’s always important to let your dentist know if you are pregnant or think you may be.

The small amount of radiation from dental X-rays is usually far outweighed by the benefit of finding infections and disease early — before they become painful, dangerous, or expensive to treat.

Duties
Greet patients warmly, verify insurance information, and manage appointment scheduling using EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft
Maintain accurate medical and dental records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and document patient interactions thoroughly
Assist the dental team during procedures, including chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques, taking vital signs, and preparing dental materials
Operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners while adhering to infection control and aseptic techniques
Manage patient flow efficiently by coordinating appointment times, follow-ups, and billing processes
Support clinical staff with tasks like sterilizing instruments, maintaining infection control standards, and ensuring the operatory is prepared for each patient
Handle administrative duties including answering phones, managing medical documentation, and processing medical coding for insurance claims
Skills
Proficiency with EMR systems like Dentrix for scheduling, documentation, and billing
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
Experience with dental terminology, medical terminology, and understanding of general dentistry procedures including prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and pediatric care
Ability to operate dental X-ray equipment safely and accurately; familiarity with medical imaging techniques including 3D scanning is a plus
Strong chairside assisting skills with knowledge of aseptic technique, anatomy, infection control protocols, and four-handed dentistry practices
Familiarity with Epic or other electronic health record platforms for medical documentation and records management
Understanding of medical coding processes related to dental procedures and treatments
