Progress doesn’t always look the way people expect it to. It’s not always big, obvious, or immediate. Sometimes it looks like standing a little longer. Walking without overthinking it. Feeling just a little more like yourself again.

One of the things we admire most about amputees is how adaptable they are. The downside?

Sometimes people become so good at adapting that they stop noticing how much they're giving up. Maybe it's a favorite hobby, longer walks, or simply feeling confident when leaving the house. Over time, those compromises can start to feel normal, but that's why it can be helpful to occasionally ask:

"Am I adapting to my prosthesis... or is my prosthesis helping me live the life I want?"

That's a very different question.

Those five words have started some of the most important conversations we've had with patients. Because when you've lived with something long enough, it's easy to assume that's just the way things are. Sometimes that's true, but sometimes, there are other solutions, adjustments, or options worth exploring.

The hardest part is often knowing which is which.
