The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine (Penn Dental Medicine), founded in 1878, ranks among the nation’s leaders in oral health education, research, and patient care. The School’s educational programs include a predoctoral DMD program, postgraduate programs in all the major clinical specialties, and a DMD program for foreign-trained dentists through its Program for Advanced Standing Students. The school is also a major provider of oral health care for the Philadelphia community through its clinical teaching facilities and Penn Dental Faculty Practices. The Department of Orthodontics recently welcomed alumni, residents, and friends for its 73rd Annual Meeting and Alumni Day. Attendees joined us for Clear Aligner Mastery: Advanced Strategies for Complex Orthodontic Treatment, presented by alumnus and this year's J. Henry O’Hern Jr. Alumni Day Lecturer, Dr. Donna Galante (D'84, GD'86).

Through clinical case reviews and evidence-based protocols, participants explored innovative approaches to treating complex orthodontic cases with clear aligner therapy. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of learning, connection, and advancing orthodontic care.

🦷 Early detection saves lives.

We're proud that experts at Penn Dental Medicine's Center for Integrative Global Oral Health (CIGOH) are leading the development of the American Dental Association's updated living guideline for oral cancer detection and management.

Oral cancer claims approximately one life every hour in the United States, making routine dental visits more important than ever. Regular oral exams can help identify suspicious lesions and changes early, when treatment may be most effective.

This groundbreaking "living guideline" will continually evolve as new evidence emerges, helping ensure clinicians have access to the latest science and best practices for patient care.

"Our goal with this living guideline is to ensure that dentists have recommendations they can trust, not only based on the best evidence available today, but continually updated as important new evidence emerges," said Dr. Alonso Carrasco-Labra, Professor and Director of the Cochrane Oral Health Collaborating Center at Penn Dental Medicine.
