February is Black History Month! As the field of dentistry progresses, let’s acknowledge some Black trailblazers who were crucial in the advancement of dental practices.

🦷 Ida Gray Nelson was the first African American woman dentist, receiving her degree in 1980 and opening her own practice in Cincinnati, Ohio.

🦷 Robert Tanner Freeman was the first African American to receive a dental degree in the U.S in the year 1869.

🦷 George Grant was the second African American to acquire his dental degree. He treated patients with cleft palates and developed a prosthesis to help patients speak properly.

Black Americans continue to break barriers, create change, and lead the charge for equality, in both the field of dentistry and beyond!

Sasha Cline, Dental Assistant
Sasha is one of our valued dental assistants. She started working with Dr. Severino-Hoza in 2012. Sasha says, “the most enjoyable part of being a dental assistant is helping the dentist relieve pain and anxiety for patients in the dental chair and helping them with their beautiful, confident smiles.” Sasha lives in Madison with her husband of 17 years and her three children, Aidan (15), Alana (7), and Ellia (5). When she is not at work, she enjoys camping with her family and spending time outdoors.
