Congratulations to Dr. Karen Hayes of Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, recipient of a 2026 Eleanor J. Bushee Award!

Throughout her involvement with the Rutgers AAWD Student Chapter, Dr. Hayes has demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication to supporting the next generation of women dentists. Serving in multiple leadership roles, including Chapter President, she spearheaded new initiatives, community projects, and programs designed to strengthen connections within the dental community.

Among her most impactful accomplishments was helping establish a chapter mentoring program that connects dental students with women dentists across a wide range of specialties and career paths. Thanks to her vision and leadership, the program has grown into a valuable resource for both students and alumni, fostering meaningful relationships, professional guidance, and opportunities for future generations of women in dentistry.

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Rosario Alvarez as AAWD's new Director of Global Affairs.

A graduate of Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico and Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Alvarez brings decades of experience as a clinician, educator, mentor, and leader. Since joining Boston University in 2000, she has been dedicated to teaching future dental professionals and advancing excellence in patient-centered care. She also maintains a private practice in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she is known for her compassionate approach to dentistry.
