You got the diploma… now comes one of the biggest questions in dentistry: what’s next? 🎓🦷

Private practice?
Residency?
Research?
Public health?
Something completely different?

The transition from dental school into the “real world” can feel exciting, overwhelming, and uncertain all at once. And the truth is, there’s no single right path.

That’s why having a community of people who understand the journey matters.

Our Early Career Membership was created to help support women dentists as they navigate this next chapter, build connections, and explore the many opportunities within the profession.

No matter where your path leads, you don’t have to figure it out alone. 💜

This June is Dental Diversity Month.

Dentistry isn’t one-size-fits-all.

The people we treat come from different backgrounds, with different experiences and expectations.

Better understanding leads to better care.

Let’s keep moving towards a profession that reflects the people it serves.

💜 You don’t have to do it alone 💜

The transition from dental school to early career can feel exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between.

New roles. New responsibilities. New decisions.

That’s why community matters.

AAWD is here to support women in dentistry beyond graduation: with connection, leadership opportunities, professional growth, and a network of women who understand the journey.

Whether you’re starting residency, entering private practice, pursuing specialty training, or finding your own path, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Your career is just beginning, and your community is already here.

🎓 Graduation Spotlight: Dr. Chris Xu 🎓

Please join us in celebrating Dr. Chris Xu as she graduates and takes the next step in her journey in dentistry!

Over the past year, Chris has served as AAWD’s Student Representative, playing a key role in strengthening connection and support across our student chapters. Her leadership has made a lasting impact on our community.

Chris was also recognized with the 2025 ADEA–AAWD Ida Gray Rollins Nelson Distinguished Scholar Award and presented one of the winning posters at the 2025 AAWD Conference—just a few of her many accomplishments.

Following graduation, Chris will begin an orthodontic residency at Tufts University, and we’re excited to see all that she will continue to achieve.

We’re incredibly proud of you, Dr. Xu, and grateful for your leadership in AAWD. 💜

To every woman in dentistry and healthcare: this month, take a moment to care for yourself with the same compassion you give to everyone else.
