Good Morning! Yesterday I had the wonderful pleasure of hearing that one of my patients is off to start college this year! I have known this young man and his family since he was a young boy. What an honor it has been for me!
That brings me to my Word of the Day - DON’T GIVE UP. Many people have heard this story of mine from when I started college at the University of Buffalo.
I was totally out of my element and overwhelmed, but tried not to let it show. For my first day while living in South Buffalo, I missed my highway exit - got lost and missed my first class!
There were soooo many people, with classes of over 200 in giant auditoriums. Just sit listen, write like mad, and look like you belong. Well, I did not (not yet) … and the results of my first exam in calculus showed by how much. I had earned under 10 (yes out of 100), and Dr McGill said “College is not for everyone - you may want to get your money back”.
I was crushed and broken … so I called Mom (hoping to get sympathy), and learned the greatest lesson of my life! Mom told me that I could give up and go live with her - not being really sympathetic, and followed quickly with DON’T GIVE UP, get help … go to the professor, tell him you are lost and ask for help (your tuition pays his salary).
I did … regularly visited teaching assistants, and met my goals. So if you are away from home for the first time, a bit overwhelmed, maybe lonely - find a friend, get the help, find the fun and DON’T GIVE UP.
PS remember ‘We cannot change the wind, but we can adjust our sails.

Good Morning and Happy September!
Today’s Word of the Day is PLANS CHANGE. Huh, what are you dreaming up today Doc?
Well yesterday we started our day with a few complicated, longer procedures. By complicated - I don’t mean difficult … all dental procedures are difficult (hence after 40 years - it is still called a Practice). These procedures had steps such that when one step was completed - it determined what the next step would be. That it why we have PLANS.
Our first procedure went off as PLANNED to a successful conclusion, in the time we PLANNED.
Our second Procedure was a little less predictable … and PLANS CHANGE!
My long time friend had lost her front bridge from tooth decay and fractures. There wasn’t enough tooth structure remaining to re-adhere (even with pin support), so I envisioned that post support would do the job (and save the cost of a new bridge) - simple enough. Of course I had predetermined which type of posts, and what core material I would use … but PLANS CHANGE (which is why we have several types of posts and various core materials). Like those commercials for auto insurance … I customized!
It took a while, but as that procedure came to completion … there was another procedure planned for a different loose crown. Cannot stop half done - and I had a PLAN. PLANS CHANGED again and other solutions needed to be found. Needless to say my time PLANS CHANGED quite a bit too, but who doesn’t like marathon dental jobs - I almost ran out of stories!
Even though we needed to extend through lunch and a bit into the afternoon … we were all Smiles at the end! We both will have stories to tell about the last day of August 2026, laugh a little remember that PLANS CHANGE!

Good Morning! My post of yesterday was renamed by the government and lost … ok I went to the gym early, got busy in the office and forgot.
Well today on this last day of August, I am looking back … because I received my official reminder that at this years’ Buffalo Niagara Dental Meeting is my graduating classes 40th REUNION.
How can it be … 40 years already! I remember that first day, looking around at all of the others wondering if I could fit in. It looked like a very competitive lot … could I keep up? Well, I don’t think that I ever really fit in … but I did keep up, and learned just what I needed to really ‘Start Learning’ my craft. I suppose that is why they call it a Dental Practice.
So after opening the reminder mail, I have registered to attend the REUNION and as I mull my decision REUNION is my Word of the Day!

Good Morning! What a peaceful start to my day listening to hits from the seventies, my bird friends, and enjoying the cool breezes.
The only rustling are the kookie squirrels playing hide and seek everywhere in the yard. Bad hiders but great chasers.
Today is yard work crew day with Rhonda. She is a tireless worker … so I may be dragging later.
As you can see in the pictures - I have finally gotten a waaaaay overdue haircut (after I ruled out the ManBun option). That of course would make a Word of the Day (or months in this case) … but I chose the phrase WANT TO BE LIKE MIKE instead. Yesterday, I went out to Dr Mike Adsit’s fabulous dental office in Newark to help scan a very complicated treatment for a veteran (yes the guys who put their lives on the line keeping our country free) out of the goodness of his heart. Who doesn’t want to be like that! I even chose a hairstyle to look like Dr Adsit! (Ok, in my case … with fewer follicles - it is my Only Option (I better wear a hat today for work crew). So WANT TO BE LIKE MIKE is my Word of the Day - you are a very good man Dr Michael Adsit and a credit to our profession.

Good Morning! As I checked the bird seed level in my feeder, my eyes were drawn to the Pretty Flowers in my neighbor’s yard. That was almost my Word of the Day … but I wasn’t sure how to punctuate it. Pretty Neighbors, flowers or Pretty Neighbor’s Flowers - I just should have paid more attention in elementary school when the Sister’s showed us how to graph a sentence!
Well, my Word of the Day today is FIELD TRIP, as in today, my CEREC PrimeScan and I are taking a FIELD TRIP to visit Dr Michael Adsit. We are going to help with a complicated patient treatment. Yes, this is the same Dr Michael Adsit who worked with us so long ago! Dr Adsit is a wonderful practitioner, and a better Man! He offers his skills to help others who otherwise may not get care - and today I am honored to be able to join in. Dr Adsit should be my Word of the Day … but he is a humble man and doesn’t like the attention … so FIELD TRIP to Dr Adsit’s office will do.

Good Morning! Sorry that I didn’t post my Word of the Day yesterday … morning paperwork took too long.
Well today I am dragging (again; still) and happily ignoring my desk paper mountain - tomorrow will be good for them! When I walked someone home last night in a surprisingly bright yard - I had my Word for today … SPOOKY MOON! Our walk across the yards always sets off my motion lights, so I had to wait (and hold very still) to capture this SPOOKY MOON … woooooo!
I thought that SPOOKY MOON was one of the Berenstain Bears books that I read my sons (when we felt adventurous) … but thanks to Mr Google I know that it was - SPOOKY Old Tree (still SPOOKY). A wonderful memory … we huddled under the covers with a flash light to enhance the SPOOKINESS! So the SPOOKY MOON set off a fun memory and is my Word of the Day.

Good Morning! I am dragging a bit today - like the sunflower in the photo from our Vermont trip.
Like my sunflower friend, I have everything that I need: rain when thirsty, plenty of height to rise above things that would damage me, and sunshine sent by God to help me grow.
Unfortunately, my evil NIGHTMARES are back … making me feel that my best days are behind me, and I didn’t do well with the time I had. I used to tell my sons that we should create a Time Machine … go back in time to fix whatever problem had happen. Then we all decided that we could not actually do that and should face the problem head on. I didn’t have any appreciable skills in life to offer and my NIGHTMARES remind me that I let my sons down in preparing for life. Rough nights.
I spend my days with the Wonderful ToothFairies enjoying their company with much laughter, engaging with long term friends catching up before our needed treatments, and my evenings with Rhonda sharing our days and plans. All Good - I just need to turn off the evil NIGHTMARES so I can sleep..
So my downer of a Word of the Day is NIGHTMARES - I will find something more fun for tomorrow! Have a Great Day!

Good Morning! I am a slow moving dentist after getting back to my Sunday routine. For some reason all of the weights at Planet Fitness seem to have gotten mis-labeled … because they were much heavier than I remember. Then a stop into Ye Old ToothBarn for some repairs.
As you may know - we had to replace our older (not old … equipment used to last longer - says the old guy) Planmecca Pan-CBCT - first UGG!
The area that was customized for the Planmecca, was not going to ‘work’ for our new machine - second UGG. The path of travel for the arm has changed in the newer CBCTs and my Header (whatever that is) was in the way! Was it a supporting area? - over my head (physically and figuratively) UGG 3, so I asked Daryl the superior builder!
I never found out what the header was, nor if it was ‘supporting’, but Daryl did his magic, and only left light sanding and a bit of painting for me. Cannot do overhead painting during the day … so a weekend it had to be - UGG 4. Yesterday was the day; and I arrived with a few things - most of what I needed was in the utility room …. Ahhh UGG 5 … no roller (I remember using it when I removed the time clock), so brush it was! No looking for brush marks! So my Word of the Day is UGG … which I hopefully got finished with yesterday!

Good Morning! I may have had a miscommunication with coach Ric. Darn - I am at the gym with no leader … could be a big ‘stretching’ day!
Well yesterday I finally set up the patio furniture and bird bath fountains which brings me to my Word of the Day BETTER LATE THAN NEVER … the procrastinator’s catch phrase!
Today BETTER LATE THAN NEVER will apply to a few incomplete projects!

Good Morning! I have been out on the Sunporch enjoying my coffee and the sounds of my flying friends. When I came out there was enough food in the feeder for breakfast … but no takers!
The picky LITTLE STINKERS wanted fresh! I would not be bullied … so I sat and read my newspoder (it is not paper any more), to the sounds of some angry chirping!
Finally I saw a pathetic squirrel looking at me … so yes I filled up the feeder. The LITTLE STINKERS won (again).
So LITTLE STINKERS is my word of the day … or pushover old man.
