How can I manage my symptoms until I see my dentist?

✅Dull toothache: Rinse your mouth with warm water. Floss your teeth to see if there’s anything lodged between them. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as acetaminophen, naproxen or ibuprofen. Never place aspirin directly on your gums. It will burn your tissue. Call your dentist to schedule an appointment.

✅Small chip or crack in your tooth: If you have a chip or crack in your tooth that’s not causing any pain, it’s OK to wait until your dentist can see you. But if there are any sharp edges that irritate your tongue or cheeks, cover the area with orthodontic wax. (You can purchase orthodontic wax in the oral health aisle at most pharmacies.)

✅Broken braces: Unless you have bleeding from your mouth, broken braces usually aren’t a dental emergency. If you have a broken wire that’s poking you in the cheek or tongue, gently bend the end of the wire using a pencil eraser or other blunt object. Then cover the wire with orthodontic wax until you can see your dentist or orthodontist.

✅Object stuck between your teeth: If you have something lodged between your teeth, try to gently remove it using dental floss or an interproximal brush. Never try to remove an object with sharp instruments.

✅Minor soft tissue injury: Thoroughly rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution or antibacterial mouthwash. Apply pressure to the affected area using a piece of clean cotton gauze. The bleeding should stop within 15 to 20 minutes. If you still have severe bleeding after that, you should seek immediate care.

Some emergencies are manageable. All you need is to be educated on how. ☺️😀😄

What is the recovery time after dental bonding?
Teeth bonding requires zero downtime. You’ll be able to resume all normal activities as soon as you leave your dentist’s office.

Do teeth need special care after dental bonding?
No. Simply follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss at least once a day and see your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings.

Because bonding material can chip, it is important to avoid habits like biting your fingernails, chewing on pens or using your teeth to open packages. If you notice any sharp edges on a bonded tooth or if your tooth feels odd when you bite down, call your dentist.

How long does dental bonding last?
How long bonding materials last depends on several factors, such as your oral habits and how many teeth were treated. Typically, however, bonding material lasts between three and 10 years before needing to be touched up or replaced.

Is bonding good for your teeth?
In general, dental bonding doesn’t pose any risks to your oral health. If you have healthy teeth and gums, then it’s perfectly safe.

However, if you have extensive tooth decay, gum disease or other serious issues affecting your oral health, you may need to have other treatments before pursuing dental bonding.

Is bonding on teeth permanent?
No. Because dental bonding doesn’t require enamel removal, it can be reversed at any time.

Cosmetic imperfections like chips, gaps, cracks or discoloration can detract from your smile and leave you feeling less confident. Dental bonding is a simple and effective treatment that can bring balance and uniformity to your smile. To find out if it’s right for you, talk to your dentist.

Happy Friday!😍💪🤗

How can I reduce dental plaque?

To reduce plaque, visit your dentist regularly and practice good oral hygiene.

Here’s how to remove plaque from teeth:

✅ Floss daily. Floss once a day with dental floss to get rid of food and plaque stuck between teeth. Studies show that flossing before brushing teeth removes more plaque.
✅ Brush twice a day. Brush your teeth for two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush at least twice a day and preferably after every meal.
✅ Chew sugarless gum. If you can’t brush soon after eating or drinking, chew sugar-free gum. Choose a kind that has the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Acceptance.
✅ Choose healthy foods. Cut back on sugary, starchy foods and drinks. Instead, choose nutritious foods and snacks such as plain yogurt, cheese, raw vegetables or fruit.
See your dentist. Get dental checkups and cleanings at least twice a year.
✅ Use mouthwash. Rinse daily with an over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription antiseptic mouthwash.

Everyone gets dental plaque. It’s just something that happens after we consume certain foods and beverages. It usually doesn’t cause issues unless you let it build up on your teeth over time. To avoid serious oral health conditions associated with dental plaque, visit your dentist regularly and practice good oral hygiene at home. This includes brushing and flossing every day. Keeping your teeth free from plaque significantly reduces your risk for cavities, gum disease and other harmful conditions. 💯✨

Plaque forms as a result of countless combinations of foods, individual acid and moisture levels in a person's mouth, and internal and exterior bacteria from any number of sources. Plaque is most often found in the molars at the back, any ridges or grooves caused by dental work, and the areas where it is difficult for brushes to reach.

It is difficult to see a plaque with the naked eye until it causes some amount of decay. You can feel something sticky on your teeth though, which remains there long after eating. This is a plaque. However, regular and good dental care will help you avoid dental plaque formation.

It is important to get rid of plaque to keep the teeth healthy. Plaque is the first step towards many, more serious dental issue. Once it hardens into tartar, the plaque is much more difficult to remove. Eliminating it while still soft enough to brush and floss out will save you a lot of trouble and pain.

Even after all the progress and innovations when it comes to dental health, the best way to remove plaque from your teeth is still be maintaining good oral hygiene. Follow these tips to keep plaque off the teeth and dental issue at bay.

Can a person be allergic to amalgam fillings?
It’s possible but fewer than 100 cases have ever been reported, according to the ADA. In these rare occasions, mercury or one of the metals used in an amalgam restoration is thought to trigger the allergic response. Symptoms of amalgam allergy are similar to those experienced in a typical skin allergy and include skin rashes and itching. If you've had an allergic reaction to an amalgam, it’s likely that you have a medical or family history of allergies to metals. Once an allergy is confirmed, another restorative material can be used.

Does dental insurance cover the cost of composite fillings?
Most dental insurance plans cover the cost of the composites up to the price of the silver filling, then you would need to pay the difference. It’s always best to contact your dental care insurance provider before procedures if you have questions or concerns about cost.
