“Where does the ‘6-month cleaning’ timeline even come from?” 🦷👀
Fun fact: it’s not a magic number.
The 6-month recall became the standard because, for many people, plaque and tartar build up enough within that time to increase the risk of cavities, gum disease, and inflammation.
But here’s the important part ⬇️
Not everyone’s mouth is the same.
Some patients may need cleanings every 3–4 months if they:
• Build tartar quickly
• Have gum disease
• Are cavity-prone
• Have braces, implants, or dry mouth
Others with very healthy mouths may be okay stretching longer between visits.
Dental cleanings aren’t just about having “clean teeth” — they’re about catching problems early before they become bigger (and more expensive) issues. 👏✨
