Wisdom teeth don’t always follow a schedule. Whether you’re 18, 28, 38. or beyond, there may still be reasons to have them removed.

To stop, or not to stop? We tell ourselves that letting primary care "make the call" moves the legal risk off our desk. Meanwhile the data says the dangerous move is stopping the drug. Bleeding after extraction on anticoagulants? Under 1% needs more than local measures — and it's essentially hasnt been fatal. Stopping the anticoagulant? Strokes and clots, some fatal. 29,212 patients in the newest review agree: don't interrupt for a routine extraction. Time it, use local measures, never bridge. A collision, fall or unexpected hit can cause more than a bruise. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are specially trained to evaluate and treat injuries involving the teeth, jaws and facial bones.

Protection starts before the game begins.
Wearing the right protective gear can help reduce the risk and severity of sports-related injuries.

Wear a properly fitted mouthguard to help protect the teeth, lips, cheeks and surrounding structures.

Wear a properly fitted helmet when your sport calls for one. Helmets play an important role in protecting the head and face from serious injury.

And remember—protective gear is just as important during practice as it is on game day.
Some injuries need immediate attention, especially if you notice: • A change in your bite

• Loose or displaced teeth
• Significant swelling
• Facial numbness
• A cut that may require stitches

The viral headline said a dentist put an implant in a man's brain. The Turkish reporting and the forensic record tell a sharper story: this was a local patient in Bursa — not a medical tourist — and the dentist placed the implant without taking a pre-op X-ray and using faulty equipment. The implant drove up through the orbital floor behind his left eye, caused temporary blindness, and reached his spinal fluid. Three surgeons turned the repair down before a university professor took it. Manual seating wasn't the sin — some implants are designed to be tapped to seat. Operating without imaging and continuing treatment without properly functioning equipment was. The dentist was later penalized by the Bursa dental chamber. The point: the surgeons who can manage a complication are the ones least likely to cause one. — Dr. Escalante
