This past weekend, Dr. Escalante, Keiko, and Leigha had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM) in Cripple Creek. Colorado Mission of Mercy

A huge thank you to the entire COMOM team for the tremendous work that goes into making this event possible and providing much-needed dental care to hundreds of people across Colorado.

A special thank you to Dr. Burnham and his team for keeping the oral surgery area running so smoothly, and for sharing his KLS drill!

We also loved spending the day with Daniel, a dental student and possibly a future oral surgeon! It was wonderful to see his eagerness to learn and help throughout the day.

One of the most heartwarming parts of COMOM is seeing so many of our dental colleagues come together to help people who truly need and appreciate the care. We are grateful to be part of a dental community so willing to give their time and talents to help others.

Everyone deserves access to compassionate dental care, and we were honored to play a small part in providing it.

This Swedish Study Says Root Canals Beat Implants — For One Specific Tooth.

A new national cohort study out of Sweden (Mota de Almeida et al., Journal of Dentistry, 2027) followed real patient outcomes for implants vs. root canal treatment across every tooth position — and implants won almost everywhere, with 98% survival at 9 years vs. 83% for root canals. Almost everywhere. Dr. Escalante breaks down the one site where the numbers flip, why it happens, and what it does (and doesn't) mean for your own treatment decision. Spoiler: it's not about implants being overrated — it's about which tooth you're talking about. Observational data, not a randomized trial — so don't cancel your consult over a TikTok.

Part 2 of the anticoagulation series. "Medically cleared" is one of the most reassuring phrases in dentistry — and legally it means almost nothing. A clearance note doesn't transfer your liability to the physician and doesn't authorize the procedure. You still own the treatment plan, the surgery, and any complication. What protects you is the standard of care: documented history, risk assessment, and informed consent in the chart. And asking a physician to "clear" a routine extraction can hand you a below-standard recommendation that you then own anyway. Consult the genuinely complex cases — recent stent, mechanical valve, antiresorptive history — for information, not permission.

Wisdom teeth don’t always follow a schedule. Whether you’re 18, 28, 38. or beyond, there may still be reasons to have them removed.

Myles came to us in his 30s feeling a little hesitant about having all four wisdom teeth removed. After meeting Dr. Escalante and our team, he felt comfortable moving forward, and we love hearing that his recovery was easier than he expected.

To stop, or not to stop? We tell ourselves that letting primary care "make the call" moves the legal risk off our desk. Meanwhile the data says the dangerous move is stopping the drug. Bleeding after extraction on anticoagulants? Under 1% needs more than local measures — and it's essentially hasnt been fatal. Stopping the anticoagulant? Strokes and clots, some fatal. 29,212 patients in the newest review agree: don't interrupt for a routine extraction. Time it, use local measures, never bridge. Part 2: does "clearance" actually transfer the liability? — Dr. Escalante
