Non-surgical expansion in adults? Yes — and it can be life changing!

In children, the two halves of the upper jaw have not fully fused yet, which makes expansion relatively straightforward. But in adults, that midpalatal suture is fused, meaning traditional expanders alone are often no longer enough to predictably widen the upper jaw.

That’s where MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) comes in. By using temporary anchorage screws for support, we can achieve true skeletal expansion in many adults without surgery — helping create a wider, healthier foundation for both the bite and the airway.

Alex started with a crossbite and narrow smile and finished with a beautiful, broad smile and improved arch development. Drs. Parnes and Rubin used a combination of a MARPE and Invisalign to achieve this beautiful result.

And the benefits of MARPE go far beyond aesthetics:

We are proud to support several local little league programs but opening day at Field of Dreams just hits different. Dr. P’s boys are both proudly representing BPLL’s Phamily Orthodontics Yankees and we’ll be out on the fields for the foreseeable future. Go Sports!

Surgical Orthodontics for adults?! Yup, we do that!

Brett came to us with a severely narrow maxilla, anterior open bite, and an underbite - things that were not corrected even after 2 rounds of orthodontics as a kid.

When Brett first came to Phamily Ortho, the doctors were preparing him for TWO surgeries - one to widen his top jaw and a second to correct his open bite and underbite.

After Brett had his upper jaw expanded surgically, Drs. Parnes and Rubin used Invisalign to start aligning his teeth. They had Brett wear rubber bands with his aligners to see if they could get any bite correction, knowing a second surgery was most likely needed to correct this in the future.

But Brett had other plans…

His consistency with aligners and rubber bands completely changed the trajectory of his treatment… allowing us to correct his bite and avoid a second surgery altogether.

What a Transformation! 🙌🏻🤩🦷

Savannah came to us with collapsed upper and lower arches, which prevented some of her permanent teeth from erupting properly.

To create the space her smile needed, Drs. Parnes and Rubin started treatment with a palatal expander, followed by custom LightForce braces designed specifically for her teeth.

Savannah was amazing with her rubber band wear, which helped correct her overbite and bring everything into ideal alignment.

✨ Just 18 months later: Savannah’s teeth are beautifully straight, her bite is perfectly aligned, and her smile absolutely shines. What a Transformation! 🙌🏻🤩🦷
