The girls always do such a great job decorating our lobby tree each month. They took down the summer stuff and put up for fall, probably hoping to usher in some cooler weather, but Brandi came up with a great idea for a Thankful Tree. We want our patients (or anybody else who wants to come by) to write down on a leaf something that they're thankful for, and then we'll stick the leaf on the tree and watch it grow!!

We apologize but it appears that our phones are down today. Our phone system runs through our ISP and we have no internet right now. Hopefully a technician will be out soon to take a look at it. We'll keep you updated on the progress. Thanks for your patience.

Happy Anniversary to me!!

Yeah, that sounds a little weird, but it was 26 years ago today that my dental practice opened. We saw 5 patients that day, and I remember being scared to death about opening my own practice, but other than my salvation and Sharman saying "yes", it was one of the best things ever. I can't begin to express how good God has been to me over the years. He's given me the opportunity to serve Him while doing something I love, and I get to work for the best team ever! Plus, I've been able to meet people who not only am I honored to call them patients, but friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. Pretty cool, huh? So thank you for helping me celebrate my dental anniversary today!

Gotta give a big shout-out to Precision Dental Labs for the excellent dental cases they've been fabricating for me. A lot of you know that I'm a huge computer nerd. Having a degree in Computer Science added a lot to that, but it's also allowed me to learn and work with digitally-designed cases like crowns, veneers, implants, surgical guides, dentures, ortho, the whole kit and kaboodle. Just about anything that can be done in dentistry has a digital side to it somewhere. Tara and the crew at Precision Dental Labs are a full-service dental lab with a desire to provide the dental offices in our area with the finest dental services. I love having a dental lab that can provide us with everything from the simple repairs, like adding a tooth to a partial when I don't have the spare time to do it, all the way up to taking custom shades and contours for complex cosmetic cases that when I take a patient outside to check the shade of a prosthesis, allow me to hear from my patient, "that dog's gonna hunt!" Thank you for all the fabulous work, and have fun with that new printer!!

This was interesting. We had the fluoride conversation in the office a couple of times this past week, and I know that everyone has to make up their mind about which side of the fence to be on, but a recent study showed that proper amounts of fluoride were beneficial in adults.

Study Links Fluoride Exposure To Enhanced Cognitive Performance In Adolescents

Dental Tribune International (12/2) reported that a new study published in Science Advances on November 21, 2025, found that adolescents exposed to recommended fluoride levels in drinking water demonstrated better cognitive performance in mathematics, reading, and vocabulary. Conducted using the High School and Beyond cohort dataset, the study analyzed over 58,000 students and found positive associations with cognitive outcomes in adolescence, though effects in later adulthood were smaller. The research challenges claims of cognitive harm from typical fluoridation and supports ongoing water fluoridation policy debates.

What is the appropriate amount of fluoride inthe diet? Dental organizations have agreed that 0.7ppm in drinking water is the optimum level. So what amount are you getting in your water? If you drink tap water, then you need to know what amount is in your tap. A water report for your area can be requested from the city or the county. If you drink bottled water with fluoride in it, the amount may be listed on the label or it can be found on the company website.

The most important thing to remember is that systemic fluoride is necessary while the teeth are developing, and topical fluoride is necessary to help keep the teeth resistant to decay after eruption. I'm a firm believer in fluoride, and I respect those who are not users of it. Plaque is the beginning of the two evils in the mouth - cavities and gum disease. If you can keep the plaque from building on the teeth, you stand a better chance at reducing your chances of cavities and periodontal disease. As one of my hygienists used to say - BRUSHA BRUSHA BRUSH-AH!!! I always wanted her to add in - FLOSSA FLOSSA FLOSS-AH!!! as well.
