You brush their teeth. You remind them to brush again. You actually watch them brush… and somehow they still have a cavity. 😅

If this has happened to your family, you’re definitely not alone!

There’s a lot more that goes into cavities than just brushing — things like snacking habits, deep grooves in little teeth, flossing, drinks, and even how cavity-prone your child naturally is.

We put together a new blog post explaining why some kids keep getting cavities even when you’re doing all the right things — and a few simple things that can help. https://inspirekidsdental.com/child-keep-getting-cavities/

And most importantly: no parent guilt around here. We’re all just doing our best to keep those little smiles healthy. 🤍

Serving Beyond Our Community ❤️ 🦷

Last week, Dr. Ruminson had the opportunity to serve in Africa on a mission trip, providing dental care to people who may not otherwise have access to it.

Some came in hurting. Some were nervous. And for some of the children, it may have been their very first time sitting in a dental chair.

But in between the exams and treatments were the moments that meant the most—the smiles, the little hands held for reassurance, and the relief on someone’s face when their pain was finally taken away.

It was a beautiful reminder of just how much something we often take for granted can mean to someone else. Dental care can change more than a smile. It can relieve pain, restore confidence, and simply help someone feel cared for.

Dr. Ruminson came home incredibly grateful for the people he met, the stories they shared, and the opportunity to use his hands and his heart to serve others.

These are the moments that stay with you. ❤️

🦷 Are gaps between your toddler’s teeth normal?

Yes—in many cases, those little spaces are actually a good thing! Baby teeth are smaller than permanent teeth, so extra room can help make space for those bigger adult teeth later on.

In our latest blog, we answer common questions like:
✨ Why does my toddler have gaps between their teeth?
✨ Will the spaces close as they grow?
✨ When should I start flossing?
✨ When should a gap be checked by a dentist?

If you’ve been wondering whether your little one’s smile is developing normally, we’re here to help. 💚

When should your child stop using a pacifier? 🩵

Pacifiers can be a wonderful source of comfort during infancy, but there comes a time when it's best to help your little one move on.

Most children should begin weaning from a pacifier between 12–18 months, with the goal of stopping by age 2. Continuing the habit for too long may affect how your child's teeth and jaws develop.

Here are a few gentle tips:
🦷 Limit pacifier use to naps and bedtime.
🧸 Offer a favorite stuffed animal or blanket for comfort.
👏 Celebrate small victories along the way.
❤️ Stay patient and consistent.

Every child is different, and we're here to help you navigate each stage of your child's smile.

Read our newest blog, "When Should My Child Stop Using a Pacifier?" for more helpful tips and answers to common questions! https://inspirekidsdental.com/stop-using-apacifier/

🪥 Does your child's breath still smell bad—even after brushing?

You might be surprised to learn that bad breath isn't always caused by poor brushing habits. It can also be linked to:

🦷 Bacteria on the tongue
🦷 Cavities
🦷 Mouth breathing
🦷 Allergies
🦷 Dry mouth
🦷 Tonsil stones

Our newest blog explains the most common causes of persistent bad breath in children, what parents can do at home, and when it's time to schedule a dental visit.

Dr. Jonathan Ruminson and the team at Inspire Kids Dental are proud to help families throughout Ooltewah, Collegedale, Chattanooga, Apison, Harrison, and Cleveland keep growing smiles healthy.
