Accidents happen sometimes… 🥹🦷

But if it’s Dr. Ava’s fault, you’ll ALWAYS hear a sincere “I’m sorry!” followed by the famous SORRY DANCE 💃🏻🤣

Because being a dentist is about more than teeth — it’s about owning your mistakes, saying sorry, and sometimes making a fool of yourself to make everyone smile again. 😂💗

— Dr. Ava, the dentist who apologizes AND dances 💃🏻🦷

✨ SDF case from Dr. Ava! 🦷💕

This is one of my patients who has received SDF (silver diamine fluoride) whenever I saw her for her dental visits.

She previously had decay on a baby tooth right next to a developing permanent molar. Eventually, the baby tooth exfoliated—and look what we can see now! 👀🦷

The decay on the permanent tooth has been arrested, and the dark area you see is from the SDF treatment.

I’ve been using SDF for about 10 years, and I especially like it when decay is caught early. It’s a minimally invasive option that can help stop or slow down active cavities in appropriate cases.

💡 One thing parents should know: SDF can permanently stain the decayed portion of a tooth dark. In this case, once the neighboring permanent tooth fully erupts, the stained area may no longer be visible depending on the tooth position.

Every case is different, so SDF may not be the right option for every cavity.

🦷✨ Baby’s first tooth is here… now what?

Once your baby’s first tooth erupts, it’s time to start brushing twice a day—including after the last feeding before bedtime.

When milk or breast milk remains around the teeth overnight, especially around the upper front teeth, the risk of early childhood cavities can increase.

As a pediatric dentist, I’ve been trained to restore severely damaged baby teeth, including using zirconia crowns. Here’s one of my cases from about two years ago. 🦷👑

But honestly, my favorite treatment is the one we prevent. 💕

✨ The simplest step:
Brush your baby’s teeth after the last nighttime feeding whenever possible, so there isn’t leftover milk sitting around the teeth all night.

Prevention over treatment—always! 🪥💗

When you decide NOT to brush before bed… 😬🦷

Here’s what might be happening while you sleep:

🦠 Bacteria stay on your teeth
🦷 Plaque builds up
😬 Cavities and tooth decay can develop
🩸 Gum problems may happen too

🌙 Nighttime brushing is one of the most important times to clean your teeth!

Before you go to bed, brush with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth. Don’t let those bacteria have an overnight party! 🦠🎉

Brush before bed. Your future smile will thank you! 💕
